Are you Lee, the guy who rides 1/2 mile wheelies on the big 950? If so, ride your big bike--it's a long ride and you can take the 950 places a lot of people can't. It's just a road ride--only problem will be if it rains.

Speaking of a 950, MAP got another 950 Enduro this week. OH GOD that thing looks like fun. Very tempting to trade the Boxer for it. If someone could figure out the Motard set up for this bike..........I may be all over it. Of corse I think I scare people on my XRR now. What if I got this thing.........you all probably kick me out of the gang. Then I went over and sat on the thing. All hopes were dashed, geesh I cant even touch the ground. They made the thing for basket ball people.

Dude, if you sell the Boxer, I will kick your butt. And I don't care if you sell it for a 950, you still get your butt kicked!

Daryl (and anyone else who cares),

I kind of messed up and scheduled 2 demo rides at Letkos for Sat morning...forgetting it was the same morning of this ride. However, I think I can do both.

I have a 9AM demo on a Husky SMR450 and a 9:30AM demo appt on a TE610. I should be finished by about 10:00AM. This gives me 1.5 hours to cruise about 55 miles of backroads including the River Road from Leavenworth to Atchison.

I'll have to haul fast to get there on time, but me thinks I can do it. I created what I hope will be a fun route. You can see it here:
http://www.marengo-ltd.com/map2/index.php?route=515

The return to Parkville route is here:
http://www.marengo-ltd.com/map2/index.php?route=499

There is one point in the route I'm especially interested in checking out--it's a curvy road called "4WD Rd". It does not show on the Leavenworth County KDOT map, but it shows on Google Maps and the Satellite imagery. I won't have much time to play along the way, but I'll let you know what I find.

So Daryl, do you want to join me at Letko's? Or do your own ride? I think we can get to Atchison in time to meet the Lawrence gang.

Sounds like a plan. I will plan to see you at LetKo around 0930, heck maybe Leigh will let me demo something....

I've had some distractions come up that prevented me from riding the dual sport roads in our area for the last 10 days. It's nice to know that Chris is putting together this ride and I hope to be there. It's one of the best areas in the whole state for a ride. BUT, it might not be as fun for me as usual. You see I got spoiled the last few days. I just got back from a 2100 mile dual sport ride in Colorado and New Mexico. 9 of us did the southern half of the divide ride. Desert, forest roads, 4900 to 12,000+ feet, and some very twisty back highways and county asphalt were all part of this ride. More to come about the ride, but not for a few days.

I will try to meet up in Lawrence with the group, David H

 I am an idiot. Letko Demo Days are June 29 & 30. This ride is the 23rd. There is not a conflict. Oops. Please disregard my previous posts.

Daryl, I'll just ride over to your house at about 9:00AM? that would give us plenty of time to play along the way. I'll rework my route up to Atchison. I plan to take us a little different route than the normal River Road, although we'll hit a little of it. Coming home, we'll ride the River Road mostly.

Thanks for setting me straight, Chris!

Well, with 45K miles, wouldn't know the wheel bearings would be shot. I found this out tonight while changing the rear tire. So I have started the search for new ones. Hopefully I can get them in by Saturday.

Kware.

On your XR I assume?? I found my rear bearing at a bearing shop. Very common bearing. The fronts I had to get at a dealer ship. Seals will probably have to be had at a dealership also. You will have to have a special tool to get the Keyed spacer off the left side of the rear hub. I made my own.

Hey Carl, you still plan on doing this trek? If so, I'll see if I can get permission from the boss about joining up with you if you decide to go. If you don't go, maybe I'll be able to tag along with Troy. Haven't done a ride this long before, so maybe need to get some extra padding for the KLR seat.

KLR is a great bike for this kind of a ride. You can stretch out a bit. If you don't already, you'll learn to stand a lot. I recommend standing a lot early on. Near the end of the ride, when you are tired, you will not want to stand as much, and your butt will be glad you did not wear it out on the first half of the ride.

If you want to hook up, it looks like about 4 of us right now are heading up at about 9AM to meet the group in Atchison. Some will return to KC after lunch and others may continue on with Greenhoot. You are welcome to ride with me up to Atchison, but if you can make the Lawrence start with the group, you'll see some really good roads. Also, if you ride with me, there is the risk that we never find the Greenhoot gang if somebody has a bike problem that causes a delay.

Bearings and tool should be in Friday afternoon. So with any luck I should still make it Saturday.

Thanks to Hayden for the tip regarding the hub tool.

I should also mention that the roads up in Doniphan County are unique because of the soil. It is very soft and fine. There are roads up there with dirt walls that are 15' high on either side. No kidding. It's a long ride, but try to make the whole thing if you can--it's some nice country.
