Eureka Trip!

Post by The Harm »

Hey everyone!! It seems like its been forever since I visited the board. Well I haven't had as much time as I'd like to ride the past year since getting married, moving ti Wichita and starting school all over again. So this summer I made a vow to ride more so I have been! My older brother and I just got back from a few days camping and riding. We camped at Eureka and did a couple alpine loops, Ophir pass, California Pass and some pavement. I was on my 2006 KLR and my brother was on his 91' Tengai/KLR. It was pretty intense on some parts and I was glad that we did it. Of course it would have been easier on a smaller bike but I only own the KLR. Travis on the other hand has been to these parts before on smaller bikes. I just wanted to show off a couple of pics to David H, Troy and Safiri. I thought they might be proud of how far I've come since floundering in the mud the first time I attempted to go on a ride with them! Hope to make it back up that way and try the Ks, Dakar next summer or something like that!

Sounds like a great time! A lighter bike would be nice in some of those trails around Ouray. The trade off is that some lighter bikes are a lot taller. (They are easier to pick up as I found out, once again, at Perry yesterday on a rocky uphill.) I head for West Fest (another thread on this) in two days. I'll report back on that ride. Clay and I are leading a group up to the top of American Mtn. We shall see how that goes since neither one of us has been on those trails.

Glad to see you back on the forum!

Nice pictures. Looks like you had a lot of fun.

One compliant, you did not photo tag your pictures so others can see where the pictures were taken.

Sorry about that it was late last night when I was doing it. I'll try and get to it later today.

The Alpine Loop roads and passes are awesome. Congrats on a good ride. (and congrats on the marriage, moving, restarting school, etc.!!!)

Are the sand dune pictures from Great Sand Dunes NP? I don't remember sand dunes around the Alpine Loop.
