A group of 6 are all meeting at our "secret" log cabin in the San Isabel National Forest on Friday for a week of Riding and Debauchery.
I'm camped out in a motel tonight and take possession of the cabin tomorrow.
I might be able to sneak a few photos out next week, but look here for a ride report when it's all said and done!

Re: Riding In Colorado
I understand there is now a $25.50 fee to ride on trails in BLM /NPS land. Further, I hear that the rangers are enforcing a rule about non-stock exhaust systems (FMF, etc.) Most enforcement seems to be in Colorado and Utah. Since you are in CO what is your understanding or experience with changes in either rules or enforcement? Do these rules apply to FS roads where any vehicle with a plate and insurance "should" be able to travel freely?

The fees have been around for awhile, they just seem to keep going up over time, like everything else. My understanding is the fees are if you are unplated only. And I have been told that a portion of the fees goes to trail maintenance and another part goes to help pay for any rescue missions of people getting lost or hurt on the trails. I have been told this, so I am not sure if its true or not. As far as exhaust is concerned, I have never been checked, but as long as you are using a spark arrestor and not riding like a tool helps.Stu wrote:I understand there is now a $25.50 fee to ride on trails in BLM /NPS land. I get to head out that way at the end of July and cant wait. 5 of us in the group and hope to be enjoying singletrack most of it.
The only enforcement that I saw last year that I totally dis-agreed with was watching a ranger pull over a family of atv's that had two young ones around the age of 8-10 riding small youth sized bikes and cited them tickets because the kids didnt have drivers license and being in Tin Cup. This was right on the edge of Tin Cup headed back towards Pitkin. The kids and family were in full gear riding safely.

Have fun Bob! Gonna be another month until I make it out there.
Re: Riding In Colorado
In two weeks we head out for our 7th year in a row and have only been stopped once to check our $25 sticker. The $25 fee is a bargain as I believe that it is good for a year. Heck, it costs $10 per day just to ride the places around here...Merwin, Collins etc. We were told by the rangers that if you ride the trails you need the $25 sticker regardless of whether you are plated or not. My experience has been, at least for the Gunnison/Taylor Park area, that they want you,(or at least your money), and are not going to hassle you as long as you are respectful.
On a slightly different subject, does anybody know of a GPS map that shows the single track in the Taylor Park/Sargents area? I've looked at some sample maps and they were not very complete in regards to the single track. I'm thinking of buying the Garmin 24k topo map of colorado if it includes single track.

I'd need a cheat sheet to remember map legend color code
not sure if this is the one I like better than garmin topo for some CO stuff

Re: Riding In Colorado
As far as I know everyone made it home safe, and I was the last to leave at dusk yesterday.... which means I haven't slept for 24 hours..... so I'll just throw up a couple of photos and try to add a little more after I've had some sleep.
It was a fine 10 days, and I'm heading back in September to ride while the leaves are turning....... hopefully.
