Eureka Springs, Arkansas August 19th-22nd

Post by KLRed »

There are two of us so far going to Arkansas for some riding. Anyone that would like to go please respond. This is my first multi day trip. If anyone has good information for that area please post as I am up for suggestions. Once in Arkansas my plan is to stay on fireroads, gravel, etc. as much as possible. No camping this time. Motels and such are still being looked into. We will be leaving approximately noon on the 19th from Belton/Raymore area, returning Monday 22nd probably in the afernoon. Let' go ride.
Thanks, Klred

Sounds great! I'll watch my schedule to see if I can join you. Be sure to look at the infamous Hillbilly Dualsport routes. There is a main route file plus some other route tidbits in this thread:

The gravel is great, but of course the pavement down there is just phenomenal, too!

As for places to stay and eat, I'm most familiar with the White Rock / Oark area.

In my opinion, unless you are part of a large group of motorcycle buddies, staying at The HUB is not all that nice or special. It is, however, very moto friendly.

Mulberry Mountain Lodge offers very nice lodging in a beautiful setting along the Pig Tail Trail (Hwy 23).

No motorcycle ride in that area is complete without a stop for gas & food at the Oark General Store.

A much better place to get gas is the Turner Bend Store.

Greasy burger to be had at the Ozone Burger Barn.

White Rock Mountain is the 2nd highest point in Arkansas and has a great lookout point. The roads to get there are some of the best gravel, too.

Not sure if he's still there, but last fall, a guy was selling great BBQ out of an RV on the W side of St. Paul. The lady in Combs always has something to eat, but don't count on her for gas--she shut that down 2 years ago.

You might want to stop and hike down to the Glory Hole Falls.

If you are gps savvy here's quite a few tracks from planning for the ADV SLAP rally. August is for Colorado riding in my book.

On the way home from SLAP I drove through Joplin a few hours before the tornado hit. :(

Not sure, I met Neonguy95, DrunkUncle, Crampfan. I hung out at our campspot mostly, had three flats on the truck getting there thursday. It rained all day friday, 4-5" so I didn't ride. We rode 200 miles saturday, over by Ft. Douglas, then up to Deer.

I wish that i could come with you but will be riding in So CA that week end. We rode in the hilly billy run and it was great. the forest roads rock, and as Troy says, the slab getting there rocks. I hope that i can join you next time. Have a blast!

Ok, since Joplin was mentioned here I think I have you guys beat. I was in Little Rock that weekend and came through Joplin at 5 pm. The tornado hit at 6. I almost stayed for a bit to grab a bite to eat. It had been a long weekend and I just wanted to get home so I just did gas and took off. Didnt know about it till 10 that night when i watched the news. Literally had the chills when I was watching it thinking I could be dead right now if I had stop to eat. Scary stuff I tell ya.
