Albert Pike & Little Missouri Flooding

Pull up a couch. It's cool in the Lounge. Just remember to be a good neighbor.

Albert Pike & Little Missouri Flooding

Post by Kware »

Last weeks tragedy in this area is unimaginable. The link below is from our ride in that area in 08. We did not stay at the Albert Pike campground, but we rode through it a couple times and we were around the Little Missouri Falls often that week.

Kevin,
Thanks for sharing those pictures. Looking at the steepness of the banks and the narrowness of the river bed explains more about the rate of the rising water than any of the news pictures or video I have seen.

I have done quite a bit of river gravel bar camping ... only had to get off the river once (March 2008, Buffalo River, AR). Within 24 hours of the start of that event the water had gone up close to 55' (feet) where we had planned on taking out a few days later. The speed, ferocity, etc. are amazing to watch unfold ... so long as you are in a safe position.
