Ride May 1 and 2

Post by allkidd »

We are a couple of newbies to riding in Arkansas and are planning a trip to Northern Arkansas, May 1 and 2. We went last october equipped with forest maps that proved to be worthless. We spent one day riding at Mill Creek and enjoyed that area, although probably not as good as Chadwick. The next day we ventured out on the forest roads with our map and spent most of the day going in circles. The roads were all marked different than on our map.

After reading about all the good riding in arkansas we thought that it would be worth giving it another try. If anybody would like to join us, the more the better. Considering how lost we were last time we may not be able to contribute much to directions but are pretty good at following.

Even if you can't go we would appreciate any advice regarding maps, good trails etc.

We have thought about doing some of the route from the Hillbilly Dualsport Ride. We were not able to make it to that ride but it sure sounded like fun. I have not seen anything about how that ride turned out. Would that route or parts of it be recommended?

I created the routes for the HillBilly Dualsport this year. I ended up banging up a knee on the first morning so I wasn't able to fully enjoy the routes. Between my limited capacity and high water, we were not able to ride the full routes.
I'm considering going back down around the first of June to ride the routes again. I would consider leading a small group of riders if anyone was interested.

To ride the full routes and complete them each day, you will need to have moderate skills and a bike that can be ridden on intermediate trails. Depending on the amount of photo op. stops, the pace usually needs to be moderate/brisk to finish in a day. The two full day routes are about 200 miles long. One route heads down to the Oark/White Rock area, the other routes goes towards Jasper.

Thats too bad about hurting your knee. Its tough to get hurt when we finally have some good riding weather.

A brisk pace with intermediate skills sounds good....I'm used to trying to keep up with my 20 year old son in Chadwick so I think Ar would be a good change. First part of June might work for us. We are signed up for that kansas ride but it isn't until I think the 2nd week in June.
