ATGATT: Video results of low-speed high-side

Post by troy »

Below is a link to a YouTube video from a guy named Bill, a moto-vlogger known as "Atlas Rider". He was doing some work on his Ninja 650 and did a short test ride without gear so he could listen to the bike....and high-sided. This is his warning about riding without gear and not to assume that you can't wreck because you have thousands upon thousands of miles of experience.

The Atlas Rider website is at http://www.atlasrider.com/. I stumbled upon him while watching a geek vlog about hashing Youtube together with Google Maps and GPS data.

You've GOT to watch this video after he drops his KLR and desperately tries to pick it up. I'm trying to figure out why he struggled so hard. I dropped my KLR 100's of times. Yeah, it was heavy, but I don't remember ever thinking I wouldn't be able to pick it up.

1st Video Ahh come on! I thought I was going to watch the crash. 5 minutes of video and no photographic evidence of a crashed bike or crash scene..... makes me wonder if that Heinz or Hunts on his face........ After watching the 2nd video, it's gotta be road rash. Bike is probably halfway out the garage door (shame  -been there done that before)

2nd Video That was about as painful to watch as Deliverance!

..... I wonder where his dog went?

AH Ha ha ha! He's a 99 lb weakling and the bikes lower than it would be on a flat road. He needs to hit the gym and get a 225. For realsies!
Ahhh, pre-mix!!

Wow. Just wow. I don't even know what to say. That was just amazing. About halfway through I started thinking that he died there with his bike and somebody else came along and discovered the camera.

It seemed like a crazy long time before he thought to at least take the weight out of his bags. I especially liked the idea of pulling the bike up with a rope...yeah. At one point he was trying to screw an anchor into the ground to use a "winch" to pull the bike up. Did he actually have a winch with him?

I've watched a few of his videos, and he seems kind of slow. I do have to give him credit for being so humble. He does not hesitate to post his own mistakes. In another one of his videos, he has his KLR pulled off the side of a curvy mountain road. When he pulls back onto the road, a car comes up quickly, and in an effort to pull away fast, he accidentally pulls a wheelie and gets out of control a bit. He admits it was an accident and that it scared him.

I first found his videos because I was watching a program called Hak5 where they interviewed him about how he codes his videos with a "live" map along side that keeps pace with the ride by showing a moving pointer along a route. So I guess he can't be TOO slow. :)

When I first saw the nude stunt rider video I thought it was Troy.... then I noticed as he went by, he didn't have Troy's signature "My Little Pony" tattoo on his left buttocks!

Ok, Ok, I know why he couldn't pick his bike up. And in his defense I don't think he's slow. He couldn't pick his bike up because.......

Are you ready for this?..........

Mac, I thought we had something special. That tattoo was a treasured gift to celebrate how free I feel when I'm with you. I trusted you not to share that photo. First you run off with Steve, and now this?! It hurts. It hurts deep.

....... There are so many tender moments in the motorcycle community:

- the camp fire sing alongs
- tears shed together while changing a tire
- the sharing of odors after a long day of riding
- intimate disclosures of special moments with large rocks, logs, and water crossings.

..... one time at (band - oh wait) motorcycle camp.
