Seal Skinz????

Post by Hank Moody »

Has anyone tried these? My physical therapist says they are great for hiking and I thought they would be good for off road use. When I read water proof and breathable I think they would be the bomb!

Looks like you can get them at REI: http://www.rei.com/gear/feature/search/ ... agod82iHcA

Or at Bass Pro which looks a little cheaper: http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/store ... 0000135910

Wow. If they work as advertised and according to the testimonials, yeah, these would be fantastic for trail riding.

At $40 a pair they better be so great you need a cigarette afterward. Holy Bat Crap Robin!

If they do what they say, I'll pay $100. Seriously. Just do one off-road ride with wet feet for 6 hours and you'll understand. My last ride in the Mark Twain turned both of my boots into fish tanks both days.

Hayden ... chime in! ... he has a pair that he wears with hiking boots on late fall / early spring canoe trips when the water and air are cold.

I wear a similar product for the same use. My observations: After floating / paddling an Ozarks stream for a day, my inner / liner socks are still damp from perspiration.

I have done worn out both pairs that I had. More along the lines of they got old and deteriated. I found out that they were hot and my feet were soaking wet by then end of the day any way. They are more for cold water fishing than anything. I gave up on them and just went with what Mike uses most of the time. Combat boots for the river that drain well. Just dry your feet out at the end of the day and your boots by the camp fire at night.

After my 2 long tours this last couple of years, I figured something out. I want a boot that breaths. Water proof boots dont really do to well. They are hot above 75 degrees and stay wet for ever and hold water more than keep it out. This last year I ended up using some Rubber over boots that packed down well and worked great. Kept my feet dry and warm. When it got hot and back to nice weather, take them off and your feet are back to comfy and breathable. If you have a breathable boot (Not waterproof) they dry pretty quickly any way.

I havent had the seal skins in quite a while but if your thinking about them for trail riding, it may be a good Idea. I still think as hard as we work the bikes and effort into the riding. Your feet will probably be wet by the end of the day any way from sweat.
