Pull up a couch. It's cool in the Lounge. Just remember to be a good neighbor.

The Next Best Dual-Sport??

Post by KC »

I stopped in at N-Motion Yamaha in Wichita today while goofing off for Veteran's Holiday. An old buddy of mine I haven't seen in a couple years is co-owner of the place so I wanted to check it out. He wasn't there at the time but I figured I'd just wander the showroom for a few minutes....I didn't make it much futher than the front counter. Right behind the counter sat three BEAUTIFUL street legal machines: An Aprilia RXV 450 Enduro, Aprilia RXV 550 enduro and an Aprilia SXV 550 Super Moto ! They look similar to the Husky TEs in style but with KTM like colors. They all have a 77 degree V-twin engine that crank out some monster horsepower and torque. I didn't really want to, but they finally convinced me that it was ok for me to take the SXV 550 Motard out for a spin. I'll say this...it's a damn good thing I didn't have one of my zero-balance credit cards in my back pocket!! TRACY: Don't even think about it...you have too many bikes already!
Anybody have experience or knowledge to share on the Aprilia bikes? Of all bike manufacturers they have to be the one I know the least about. I plan on buying a new bike sometime next year. I want my next bike to be fuel-injected so I now have three top contenders to choose from: Husky TE450, BMW G450X and the Aprilia RVX 450

The models I saw today were '08s and the USA versions have a trick looking dual exhaust that hides up under the rear fender.

KC, I don't know much about the Aprilia except the 550 is almost too much power. I would search Thumper Talk exotic forum:

Yes I do know a little bit about these. Mostly just what I have read, reviews and one first hand user. I have yet to see anyone rave about it in the long term. Some complain about vibration. Worse than an LC4 even. The 07s had lots of problems staying together. I met a guy at the gas station a couple of fridays ago that lives right out here by me. I was on my Adventure. He stated that he had the 550. I grilled him on it big time. He rode it on some track days at Hallet in OK a few times. He stated they had lots of problems with it and had already replaced the motor in it. He did say while it was running, it was a lot of fun.

You can probably find a thread or 2 on Advrider about it if you do a search. Its really a little too rare for my blood though. Ive just kind of vowed to stay away from Duc and Aprilia.

:D I would LOVE to take the RXV450 around the moto track a few times. The twin engine on the SVX 550 I test rode was much smoother than Troy's Husky, in fact, I felt very little vibration at all. It likes to pull up the front wheel in 1st, 2nd and 3rd. Not sure about 4th 'cause I was running out of road. I'm not in a hurry to buy something, so I'll keep waiting and riding the old goat.
