everyone come and bring your dualsports and if you get to going around the track faster than you like on the d/s i will let you ride my cr! lets ride!!
Dude :!: I would LOVE to ride your CR. My first full-size bike was an '86 CR125. I bought it in '89 from a guy in Ponca City for $300. Still can't figure out how I picked it up so cheap but I loved that bike. Sold it for 900 bucks when I left for the army in '91....what a deal...I got paid $600 to ride it around for 2 years.
See you Sat.

Hey Joe,

I think I have the moon and stars alined and I can make it on Sunday, but not Saturday. That is if I don't get deployed to the hurricane relief efforts again! I was planning on leaving Parkville at 0700 and hope to arrive at your place around 0900. Is this okay with you?

Daryl, the competition on Sunday at the Nebraska riding area starts at 11am. So we'd be leaving Joe's no later than 10:30 I'd guess.

I plan on leaving around 8 and it should take me every bit or more of 3 hours. If I get there too early it's no sweat, I'll just hang back, have lunch, maybe unload the bike on a road and take off somewhere.
Joe: if you're game is in Sabetha and I see it, I may just stop and watch the carnage

What a fantastic weekend! Joe (xrnut), MANY THANKS!

I arrived about 2:30 pm on Saturday to find Joe, his wife & 2 boys, my brother (KC), and a few locals hanging out at the track. Some shade, some camp chairs, a couple of coolers, and all the bikes you could want!

I unloaded, got geared up, then watched my brother hitting the jumps. Man, he was clearing everything out there! I rode around an MX track about 3 years ago, and it scared the crap out of me--all I could do was roll slowly over the jumps. I couldn't believe KC was doing so well after only 40 minutes or so on the track. I did not have the same hope for myself! I started around and just rolled over the jumps getting a feel for the track, angles of attack, and distances you have to clear or face certain pain!

After a dozen weak launches off the "easy & safe" jump, I was not making much progress and feeling a little discouraged. Joe gave me some tips and KC and Stacy offered their own advice. It was probably Joe's wife who forced me to kick it up a notch when she asked sarcastically, "you going to get any air under those tires?!" I have to admit, it was getting a little embarrassing having to pull out of the way so Joe's 8 year old could blast past me! His 11 year old can FLY!

I had Joe and Stacy take my Husky TE450 around the track a few times to prove to me that the bike could do it. Sure enough, the only problem was ME! After a little more than an hour, I finally was able to allow myself to launch off the big table-top jump, which turned out to be one of the easiest jumps actually. Eventually, I was able to hit every jump on the track, but not consistently, and I never really felt comfortable with it. I came down squirrelly once and ended up laying the bike over...no harm.

I have no desire to be a motocrosser, but any motorcycle skills I can gain and improve on may serve me well somewhere along a trail in the Arkansas forests or Colorado mountains.

Saturday evening while we still had a couple hours of daylight left, three of us, led by Joe, did a little gravel road tour around the area--some good dualsport roads up there! We found one "closed" road that was akin to an off-road trail. We returned home as it was getting dark and Joe fired up the grill. He made us some of the most delicious strip steaks I've ever had! With the help of his wife, we enjoyed grilled potatoes, baked beans, deviled eggs, and a fantastic peach cobbler made with fresh peaches they picked days earlier! I'm telling you guys--you missed out!

KC & I enjoyed a good night's sleep in our tents. Sunday morning gave us some Krispy Kream donuts and we hit the road for the Rally Point Ridge riding area. The riding area is really good! It's a little more than 300 acres with all kinds of trails. Watch out for the buffalo, zubu cattle, and bighorn sheep that roam the trails--this used to be a fancy hunting place. The nice folks that run the place made us some buffalo chili that was delicious!

Back to Joe's place where he did some machining and welding on Daryl's TE510 to repair his kick-stand issues before we all packed up and hit the road for home.

I have some good pictures from the mx track to share, but need to upload them first. I'll update this thread when I do. We didn't take a camera to the trail riding area.

I was in a bad mood Sat because I didn't take off and go. I had a Dr appt and a WEAK garage sale and didn't get to ride. Not a happy camper! We did make it out to watch the hare scramble at Milford today though, so that was pretty cool.

Props to Kyle, I've never seen that much sky under a DRZ before! Were the landings harsh?

:D Surprisingly..NO. I'm very proud of the old goat for how well she handled those jumps :!: Changing the fork oil out to the Showa 10 weight racing oil made all the difference in the world on the bumps and jumps...it handles much better. I warmed up to the track on Joe's CR250, then made a few careful laps with the DRZ to get a feel for the jumps and try to figure out how much speed I needed to clear them. The only time the DRZ really bottomed out was when I flew clear past the landing on the last jump...I didn't do that again.

Thanks to the guys who braved the moto track, i hope you all had fun. It was big fun for me to entertain some buds out here. I would like to do it again, with hopes that a few more take adantage of it! troy and kc really pushed themselves and i think became better riders as a result. troy made the biggest gains in ability and confidence. the weather couldnt have been better and neither could the comradiere!

Thanks, Joe! I just want to make sure nobody interprets this incorrectly!Joe is not saying that I exhibited better skills on the track than Kyle. In fact, Kyle was a lot more confident and skilled on the track than me. However, based on where I started when I got there, I really made some progress and overcame some major fears. I do feel I am a better ride for it. :)
