Riding Black Bear or Imogene?

Post by Stu »

You might want to take a look at this if you are going to be in the Telluride or Ouray area...

Is this ticketing on the high passes a result of increased ATV use (apparently mostly 4 wheelers) on the trails and in the town? Complaints from local landowners or campers? Whatever it is you now have the possibility of getting a ticket riding dirt trails. What next? Helicopter surveillance? Entry / exit toll booths with tickets with times on them? Cameras hidden in the trees?

I was knocked off my bike on the Shaffer trail in Canyonlands a few years ago by a 4 wheeler power sliding an uphill blind corner. No harm done to my bike at least but it never occurred to me to yammer at the USFS about that. Just another close encounter. Just like Perry.

Will your dirt bike even go as slow as 15 MPH?

Understand that the Alpine Loop passes that face north just opened ... finally metled enough snow to get a plow through.

I rode it a few years ago on what is now Jeff's 450 (an awesome ride, Jeff, just so you know what you can experience with that bike out there) and got some pix that had flare. I intend to correct that this year. The rock steps are pretty easy on a dirt bike. They could be traversed by a 950 KTM with care (don't fall off).

Me too, my buddy Larry is coming along, we'll be in cabin 9. The ranger dude can only be on Ophir, Black Bear and Imogene, there's plenty of stuff to ride east of 550. We're going to ride out of Poncha Sprgs the following week.
I rode with a guy in the Black Hills last year who's coming to westfest from his home in Ontario. :)

I am not certain that your assurance that Ranger Richardson will be west of 550 is true. Where do you get your data?

I intend to ride all of them regardless of where he might be lurking. I will be in cabin #15. Come over for a beer and a visit. Expect sarcastic blasts and be ready for blasting back, the fun part of course.

We just got back from Ouray a few weeks ago. This is the third time in the last 4 years I have made it out there to ride. We did come across some single track, but most were jeep trails. If you have never ridden in this area you are missing some of the best scenery I have ever seen. We did not see any Rangers on the trails. Passed by a bunch of cops in town, but no one on the trials/passes.

I know everyone just wants to see the crashes, so here is a video with some of the crashes we caught on film! It's about 40 megs and about 10 min long.

Here are a few pictures we took
