Wabaunsee County - Sunday 6/01

Post by MacWildcat »

Thinking about doing a loop through Wabaunsee county Sunday. To make it easier to meet up, we could meet at the Wildwood winery on I-70 (exit 333) Paxico west exit. There's fuel pumps available and a large parking lot. I figure a loop toward Alma for lunch and back towards Eskridge and the narly low-maintenance back north to Paxico.
Let me know if you are interested, I'll try having a GPS route ready Saturday. These roads tend to dry out pretty quickly with small mud holes to navigate after a rain. Should be some good washed out sections to make things interesting. Meet at 10:00, should be back to I-70 by 3:30.

Larry, if I can get the XR clutch adjustment figured out I'll join you. I'll probably trailer to Paxico and see you at 10:00 a.m. If I can't make it I'll send you and email Saturday so you'll know not to wait on me.

Good deal! I'll plan on hauling in to Wildwood also. Should be a good time, always like the time I spend in Wabaunsee county. Rode 140 miles last weekend in Reno/Stafford county. Lots of flooded roads, some 50 yards of standing water. The roads out there are mostly loose sand, the KLX400 was a dream! Rode out to Quivera Wildlife refuge.

I got the clutch cable issue fixed so unless the weather turns bad I'll be there. I didn't realize it was going to be all fast guys and me.

 Anyone that rides with Tim knows he has a 20 mph limit  This is a Sunday morning ride, and since we only ride our bikes to/from church like little old ladies, I think you'll be fine. I have the route created, send me a PM with you email address if you want me to send you the file. I did include Box Turtle road where all the other little old ladies hang out. There's also a couple places along the way to wash your bike.

Looks like we'll have a good size group. Weather looks good tomorrow, only a 20% chance of rain in the afternoon, high in the 80's, and minimal winds. Roads(?) should be in fine shape, a few mud holes along the way. My cell# is (785) 313-3127 See you tomorrow morning.

Harvey Mushman just sent me an email about this ride. I want to go soooo bad. Plans that I can't get away from! I just bought a new in the crate 2007 Husqvarna TE 610 and the only riding has been to and from work. I'll be watching for future rides!!! Hopefully I can get this thing out for some fun venturing in the country.

Had a great ride today, eight riders total. We rode approximately a 90 mile loop. I know I had one major spill.....I think it was 32 oz while we were in Gambinos  . Knock on wood, this is the first time I can remember taking a group into Wabaunsee county with no flats. Box turtle was in it's usual ugly shape, one good line with little room for error. A couple good mud holes to keep everyone honest. Also had some good creek crossings (Andy - I think we agree it's a little deep when the water is over the exhaust pipe!) Probably a few bumps and bruises, as reminders. I'll get some photos posted up later.

Yeah Firepiper, you missed a good one. Larry always has a good route. Wabaunsee county, Eskridge/Alma is one of the best places in the area for unmaintained roads. Good to meet some new faces and see some of the old Vets from years gone by.

Larry, thanks for setting up a great ride. It was good to ride with you and the other guys this weekend. I had to go nearly 22 mph to keep up. I guess that's life in the fast lane, huh. Wabaunsee county has some fun roads with some great scenery, especially with everything so green. That was one great spill you had... I've never seen David move so fast. Let's do it again.

I posted a few photos from Sunday's ride. There was actually nine of us that did this ride, must have been the euphoria of the ride - duh. After the rians we got last night, this would be a completely different ride this week. Wabaunsee county got pounded by the severe storms, lots of flash flooding.
Here's the link to the photos. If anyone else as photos, let see'em! :D

Thanks Larry for the fabulous ride last weekend in your back yard. Yes, our bikes had the thorough chassis wash, mufflers included. Definitely worth the price of admission watching Dave's rendition of 'Dances with Huskies'! Great day, great friends, and as usual when you lead- great ride! Thanks again!
