Boot Dryer

So, after our Arkansas ride aka "the waterfall ride", I've decided a portable boot dryer is high on my list of riding accessories. In a post at

On the trip, one of the St. Louis guys loaned me one of these:

It worked well and very fast. However, one of them had burned out on him, and they aren't cheap. He was understandably miffed about that.

I'm wondering how fast the dryers work if they don't blow any air. The Optronics above, as I understand, use only heat to dry--no forced air. On a trip with lots of riders, it would be good to have a unit that dries boots quickly so you can share the dryer.

Any of you have experience with any of these or other options? Eddie, how fast do those Optronics dry really wet boots out?

My homemade ski boot drier that will be coming along next time. Electrical tape, 4" 12VDC computer fan (scavenged, or steal one off of someone's motorcycle), end cap for 4" corregated drain tile (thin walled, NOT schedule 40 sewer pipe cap), 1" or 1.5" hose for sump pumps (I have some extra, Troy), scavenged DC power supply. No heat so no worries about melting boots. Dries ski boots in a few hours ... should do the same for MC boots. Much quieter than a hair (blow) drier PVC tree arrangement. The PVC tree arrangement with a hair dryer is what you see at a lot of the ski rental places in CO. You can barely hear this thing when it operates. But it does move air.

Obviously, does two pair at a time.

Wednesday was opening of the KS turkey season. It was a very wet and my boots got soaked (I'll cross creeks knee high to get to a gobbling bird.) I used those dryers every night and the inside of my boots would be dry in the morning. They pug in into a car's cigarette lighter or wall socket making and are small enough to pack easily.

I also have this dryer: http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templ ... 605810205a It is even better and faster but it quite a bit bigger.
