I need about a 10 second squirt of weld.

I sheared off one of the bolts on my exhaust header (KLR650) that holds the little heat shield on. I could not extract the remains. So, I was thinking about just grinding it off and welding a new nut on there.

I'll buy you a sixer of brewdizzogs...

Bravo Sir, I wanted to reply but for only a six pack it would have to be something imported at least.

My little 110 gets a little wonky on the wire speed sometimes and not knowing how thick his headers are it might have gotten iffy.
If it's a plated nut and you use a small mig I'd suggest wire wheeling the coating off first.

Yeah, my PM was "nothing sold at a stadium".

I have Michelob Light in my beer frig that was brought over months ago. The bringer jokes when I see her that she is sure her Mich Light is safe in my frig.

I have a Miller 110V MIG running Argon/CO2 so it should do ok. Thin stuff can be a PITA, so I will examine carefully before I go blasting holes. The Miller does have dual adjustment so it should work ok.

Thank you much Mr. Safiri!! Got the welding done and I got to hear some great riding tales from a nice guy. Hope to see you on a ride soon (that's what babysitters are for).

The pipe looks great. Now I just need to see if I can get any paint to stick to it. If not, it's a KLR, nobody will notice.

I re-finished my exhaust pipe not too long ago...looks as good as new. I used a $6 can of RustOleum brand spray paint called HIGH HEAT found at most hardware stores. It is designed for stoves and barbecues.
You are right! That paint aint gonna stick unless the metal is properly prepared!! I used a heavy solution (about 50/50) of CLR and water and a brillo pad to srub all that stubborn rust and dirt off. Takes a lot of elbow grease but it will come off.

The pipe looked good to me. You might want to spray some oil on the weld until you are ready to clean it up and paint it as that is fresh, exposed metal that will rust easily. There shouldn't be much, if any, slag as I was using argon shielding gas.

I got some 1200 degree paint from Autozone and sprayed it on last night. I put a space heater on it in the garage, I'll probably move it in the house tonight to finish "curing." It says on the can to let it cure for 7 days. I was even thinking of putting it in the oven and letting it bake a little. Hopefully it at least keeps the rust from developing. When cleaning it up I found that most of the stuff I thought was rust was just good ole' red Colorado dirt.
