Time to get the focus of this thread back on me--where it belongs. Don't you guys know it's all about me?!

Walked out of the DMV with my shiny new tag. Woohoo! I heard that the license plate adds like 3 hp or something. Looking forward to the extra power.

Spent an hour or so just talking to the TE in the garage yesterday. As with any new model, there are a few minor issues that have cropped up on the forums. Lucky for me, while the weather is keeping me from riding here, the Australians are riding the crap out of the new bikes and providing detailed reports on the issues along with solutions.

So I fixed the little issues. I found a good way to mount my GPS, but I still need to wire it up. I'm going to add heated grips because they add almost no weight, but sure make riding in cold weather bearable. I loved them on my DR350.

Looks like if I don't ride today, the weather is not going to let me ride much later this week, so I'm planning to hit the street for a few miles after work. Anybody want to tag along? I'll be wanting to stay under around 45 mph so I'll probably just head N of the KC metro to the minor paved roads. I'll probably ride up to around Smithville Lake and back....probably check in on Kware. You hear that K?

I heard you were ditching ol' faithful Troy.

FWIW, I have ridden a 610 and it was a rocket, too much for anything I could handle on a single track.

Guy in Houston had a KTM 525 and it was lifting front tires in 3rd through Sam Houston National Forest. He has a set of moto wheels for street duties. I threw a leg over it and was half tempted to buy one, and I'd get hurt.

You are on the right track with KTM or Husky. I'd lean the in the orange direction if I wanted to ride dirt anymore.

Oh another bike to not rule out, although big is a Honda XR650R not an L. Uncorked, DS kit and kick start and these suckers go!

Take care, hope everything is good and the kiddo is doing fine.

Kiddo is doing great! She's a firecracker whipper-snapper!

XR650R -- oh yeah! I LOVED riding Tracy's. Amazing power and such a solidly built machine. I love the Honda quality. Problem for me--currently a one-bike man--is that bike is too big for me in the tight stuff and I can't deal without my e-start.

I've logged about 50 miles on the Husky TE450 so far. If I had it to do again, I might wait for the fuel-injected KTM 525, too. I only rode a 525 about 10 miles with a tiny bit of trail involved, but based on my limited time on both bikes, I really liked the gear ratios in the 525. The first 3 gears on my TE450 are SO close together. The 525 cruises 70mph easier than my TE. I've not had my TE up to 70 yet because I'm breaking it in, but I can already tell the RPM will be about 7,000 at 70 MPH. When I rode that 525, it seemed to cruise at a comfortably low RPM at 70. I suppose I'll appreciate the TE's close ratio in the gnarly stuff. Also, I don't remember the 525 feeling so tall. I'm leaning off one side of the seat to get a foot down on my TE450. I continue to be intrigued by the Fuel Injection, and time will tell for sure if it's a good thing. So when KTM offers me a street-legal, fuel-injected 525, that would be an attractive option for sure.

Better yet...Honda can make me a street-legal, efi, high-tech, lightweight 400 (or so) dualsport with a decent road gear for $5,500.

Why can't bikes have a "highway gear"? I don't know about you guys, but if there was a big jump from 4th to 5th, that would be fine. On the trail, I'm never past 3rd (usually). I only need the top gear on the road...so make it one that allows me to cruise without rapping the motor.

Don't get me wrong, I'm very happy with my TE450 and plan to ride her for many years. It's a lot more machine than I'm capable of taking advantage of. Let's see how my opinion changes after I get down and dirty with the TE.

Troy,

We already KNOW you are a distinguished personage, suave and deeply involved with yourself. And harbor intense amusement over your fellow dirt bikers. And hysterical upon meeting celebrities and new dirt bikes. When other guys gather round and ask, of the prancing dirt bike fawner, who he is, we respond, whispering, "Oh, he's the club bore."

Wow, that was a low blow. Troy's DR 350 was a trusty stead that did everything he asked of it. I'm sure it took several sessions with his therapist to be able to get over the seperation!

Another way to think about it is Troy dumped his old bike for the new throphy bike that is new and has more of everything.

Awwww its not a low blow. After the first day in AR this spring, Troy will be wondering why he didnt make the change sooner. I was that way when I got my XRR. After the first week, I was wondering why I ever had a XRL. Granted I liked my XRL but the XRR is about 300 times more fun. Plus when I go to a 450EXC from the XRR, Im sure I will feel the same way as above. Why didnt I do this sooner.

You will find out more about that when I pass you in Arkansas and the rest of us are pounding our knees in helpless laughter, Jeff.

Actually, the old, high-flow toilets are in demand. People sneak them across the border from Canada just to have a toilet that works better. All fun and games, though...yeah, the old DR was not exactly a high-performance machine. Reliable--no doubt. Fun--no doubt. 8)

So I can see we'll be having at least two separate groups riding the trails. Those that are trail riding and those that think it's an enduro with something to prove. Please allow me to get far enough behind before you roost...thank you. I promise to act impressed by your speed and and tire spinning. :)

Speaking of two groups, Troy, you will be in the racer wannabe group with me, especially now that Husky announced today that Scott Sommers will be heading up a team of two young bucks to contest the GNCC series. Now that you have one of their best hot-shot bikes we expect nothing less of you. You are going to have to show us how it is done, Troy.

That's when I met the DR350SE. Mine is a 99--the last year they made them. Purchased in November 2006 with 6,700 miles.."

Yes. That should have been November 2005. I updated the post to correct it. Good catch. Btw, I'm not surprised you remembered that. As I recall, I practically had to tear you guys away from my sweet DR. When I returned home, I washed the bike--not to remove the Arkansas dirt, but to remove Ohio drool. Some of you guys will just have to make do with your KTM's until you can find your own DR.

As another prior DR350 owner, I can identify with Troy undying devotion to the DR350, wish I still had one. I'm still keeping a eye out for a 99' DR350. Isn't it interesting, do a Ebay search on DR350s, you'll be fortunate to find one....do a search on a KTM, well that's another story! Actually there are couple KTM models I covet, but just as hard to find.
