April 3-6, 2008: April Fool's Ride in Arkansas!
Re: April 3-6, 2008: April Fool's Ride in Arkansas!
Hey, Dennis, remember struggling to walk/drag our bikes down this hell hill?! As usual, the photo does not do justice. This was a nasty, steep hill. One I'll avoid in the future. We broke the "don't go down something you can't get back up unless you are sure there is another way out" rule. I remember both of us holding the bike, brakes locked, skiing along side as we held on.

The more I read of your AR Adventures the more I want to join you but I don't think I can. That weekend is the youth turkey season in KS and I have a nephew that already has it on his calender.

As much as I'd love to have you along, there is no way this ride would work for your BMW1200GS! You handle that machine very well, though. You could probably handle most of the Hillbilly Dualsport routes. It is the weekend before this ride. Check it out!ajayhawkfan wrote:The more I read of your AR Adventures the more I want to join you but I don't think I can. Hey Dennis, I see that you have a tool bag on the front of your RFS. Does it stay there without problems? I've recently made the switch from an LC4 to an EXC (525 too, OMG!) and am wondering how well these flimsy EXC fenders hold up with a little weight on 'em.troy wrote:The "old guy" who rode me under the table? The guy who every morning was the first one suited up, helmet on, sitting on bike, pointed towards the trail? Glad to have you back, Dennis! I added your name to the list in the first post. We are up to 29 riders.hawkeye wrote:Count me in. This is Dennis. I'm the "old guy" that did the fall ride with you on a 450 exc.
Dennis, the "old guy", in action
P.S. How old is considered "old" nowadays! I'll be 47 by the time I get to this ride and I dont see an end this 2 wheeled fasination of mine any time soon. WOO-HOO!
Thanks, Randy.
I wanna ride, I wanna ride, I wanna ride.......... No honey not you, step aside, the orange motorcycle behind you is the object of my desire!

Randy.
I had that inner tube bag on my 640 without problems. I'm not sure the bag would hold up with heavy tools in it. Since it clipped onto the fender I didn't mind losing an inner tube if it came off but I do mind lost tools.
47? I'll spot ya 21 more.
You will not regret getting the 525 EXC. I find it superior to the LC4 Enduro in every way. I don't run a lot of highway so that doesn't matter to me. My LC4 in Colorado with 150+ miles of pavement got really, really old and my throttle hand went to sleep and my buns got numb and.... The 525 so far has not had any of those problems. It does have one serious flaw: it just toasts rear tires. YeeHaw!!

Were you all planning on leaving ealry Thursday, midday or after work? I have a flexible job so I can bolt whenever. Ride all weekend then pack it up around lunch on Sunday and head home to make it home by the kids' bathtime.

I think we plan to leave around noon, but this might change. We need to make sure everyone can get off Thur or leave work early. I took the day off, but I am not sure about the others just yet.
Troy,
I just paid and will get my buddies to pay asap.
Thanks

david h is correct about trying out the Catalpa Cafe they for sure have the best food and atmosphere. They also have award winning Catfish, ribs, and pies. However, the little man who is 76 yrs old and makes all of the pies, only makes pies for the Catalpa Cafe, not the oark cafe. Catalpa Cafe has 2 dinning rooms and can handle large groups just a phone call to make arrangements and let them know when your group will be there (479)292-3292. Very nice people, and you'll find all of the locals there.

Re: April 3-6, 2008: April Fool's Ride in Arkansas!
Well, we went riding yesterday in preperation for this Arky ride comin up. The first real ride since I installed the Recluse Pro on the 525. At first it made ALOT of noise down there, but after 'bout 15 minutes it quit and just started hookin up! I rode the whole day in "fairly" tight woods in 3rd gear! Need a little mo powa? Just finger that clutch lever and you got it my brudda!.....and the stock rear tire is about shot, I'm curious to see what a nice new one would add to the equasion. OMG! I should'a bought an RFS a long time ago for sure.
Oh and Troy, Im trying to get everyone together so's we can talk about getting our portion of the lodge paid for too.
Later, Randy.

Re: April 3-6, 2008: April Fool's Ride in Arkansas!
I have read a lot of riders like the Recluse on the TT Husqvarna site, but this will be a mod for me in a couple of years. Next is a steering dampener, then the Recluse. I wish we could go riding up in KC but with a high temp of 22 it is a little hard to do.Nobiman wrote:Well, we went riding yesterday in preperation for this Arky ride comin up. Re: April 3-6, 2008: April Fool's Ride in Arkansas!
For what it's worth, I lost a fender bag on the front fender of my KLR on a really rocky gravel road. I never could find it. It had 2 brand new tubes and tire irons in it.Nobiman wrote:Hey Dennis, I see that you have a tool bag on the front of your RFS. Does it stay there without problems? Since then, I've used a fender bag from http://www.CycoActive.com on my DR's front fender. I make it as tight as I can and every now and then, a clip will come undone. The nice thing is that the bag includes a snap clip that you use with a zip-tie to clip the bag to your front fork. So in theory, if the bag came completely loose, it would still hang from your fork......just before getting caught in the front wheel, locking it up, and throwing you violently headlong over the bars into a tree. But thank God your fender bag will be saved!
I ordered a nice new black fender bag to go with my new TE450. I couldn't put that blue bag on such a spiffy new bike. Are you all ready to watch me put the first scratches, dents, and general carnage on my new bike down in the Ozarks?
Re: April 3-6, 2008: April Fool's Ride in Arkansas!
Well congrats Troy, a new TE 450! Woo-Hoo! You'd better get ready for a whole new riding experience my brudda, the first ride on my 525 out at Hatfield & McCoy with the Ohio boys had it nearly accelerating right out from underneath me. I caught it by the tips of my fingers countless times but thankfully never lost it. So dont say ya havent been properly warned! Enjoy it as I know you will.
Oh and go ahead and bust out the sleeping bag and cot so's you can spend the first couple'a nites in the garage with yer new steed too! Ha!
Randy.

Luc,
This is my intended route http://www.google.com/maps?f=d&hl=en&ge ... 226074&z=6 we'd be leaving around 6pm est at the latest, possibly earlier if I'm running solo
If you could get near that route we could make it happen,
but, coming to you would add almost 2 hours to my trip, that's time I really don't have to spare
Moridin,
The plan is the same as 2 years ago, would roll though you area 3-4am-ish
Google say 9 hours from here to you, add one for gas stops. We leave at 6pm est, we'll get there around 3am cst
OH Posse
(looking the like Lone Ranger at the moment)

4- CJ 50/50 (Won't know until last minute I guess)

6-
7- Middle back seat in the Suburban, kinda tight
8- Middle 3rd Row seat in the Suburban (really tight, be prepared to cuddle )

Tom - you can stop with the lone ranger whining already - I'm in, I'm paid and as long as I don't break myself, I'm riding - off to find wood to knock on...
I took 1/2 day off Wed Apr,2 so I'll be ready to roll by 2PM at the latest. (That gives me an hour at home to prep my bike while you wait in the driveway - I'll probably be shot if I do that again b- bring your gun, I'm sure you'll need it)
I took Thursday & Friday off of course and 1/2 day on Monday, just in case we ride a bit past noon on Sunday.
Additional riders I have contacted to go:
Pete
Kirk
Ron
I'll hit a couple more up this evening - if I can talk them into dual sporting their bikes
