Is anyone going to this ride (road, DS and off road) July 26~29 in Sipapu, NM?

There is camping (and showers in the lodge). Just curious. I'm thinking about it.

I can't go but last Fall when I was there for the BMW rally, I talked to a guy who was riding a DRZ400 on the dual-sport trails and having a great time. He showed me a map, available for purchase in the Ski Lodge, which shows the trails. Looks like a lot of fun riding.

If you go it will be interesting to read your report.

I'm already doing a week-long, small-group ride in July, so I won't be able to fit another big ride in this summer.

Looks like some good riding down there, Stu. With your mad trail skeelz, don't you think you'd be a little bored tagging along with a bunch of big adventure bike riders? I know there will be all kinds of bikes, but it looks like a HUGE number of riders are going to attend, and a lot of them apparently ride GS type bikes, etc. I'd think you'd need to go hit some gnarly trails with a group of high-speed maniacs!

What bikes do you have, Stu? What would you take down there? You been riding much in the snow?!

West Fest Riding

Post by Stu »

Troy,
I thought this was a combination of trail riding and dual sport riding with the road stuff for the adventure (so to speak) riders. If the trail riding is minimal or non-existent I would not go, of course. I have not been there and I do not know how this rally is structured.
I am picking up a new 525 in Feb and plan on using it for both trails (see how tough I really am...) and dual sport with an emphasis on sport (Colorado, Utah, etc.) In the meantime the 250 2-stroke continues to be the main hoot and it is fab on trails. Were I to go to West Fest the 525 would be the scoot of choice.
I do not do snow when there is about 2~3" of ice under it without studded tires and I have not gotten around to running screws into knobbies. Need an extra, and repetitive chore this weekend, Troy?
