Funny moments

Post by david h »

 Funny moments from the past.I would like to start a thread about things that have happened to our group in the past couple of years.

Troy, do you remember a time about 2 years ago in the White Rock, Arkansas area where you had a little get off? We were a group of about 8. One rider went missing, I think it was Tracy, so Troy goes back to find him. On the way back to the group Troy wanted to impress us with his riding skills and came up to the group at a brisk pace. He applied a tad too much front break and took a spill not more than 10 feet from us. Now I know thats not very funny, but what he did next was great. Somehow he ended up on top of his bike sliding down the trail and before the bike came to a stop, he jumped off and ran right into the middle of the group with a big shit eating grin of his face like he meant to do it. I was very impressed to say the least.

I have also witnessed Tracy and "the boob man" trying to impersonate a submarine at the same water hole on a trail down by Cass Ark. Lots of us have been on this trail , but if you haven't just imagine a trail with lots of large swells to divert the water off the trail. most you can't see over to see whats there to land on. This one spot happened to have a very deep water hole and thats where the fun begins.

There must be lots more stories, lets hear a few, David h

Kyle coming up a steep hill in the Ozark NF, bike coming to a sideways stop, and him doing his Ninja impersonation as he flew off of the bucking bike. Perhaps this showmanship runs in the family, as Kyle's last name is Wolf.

One on me that Troy and Kyle witnessed down in the Ozark NF. Climbing a steep hill, getting off line, going into a wheelie and then into a couple of trees. No harm to me. Looked darn impressive.

What about the time when Tracy decided to go through the middle of the mud hole instead to the right? Water was almost to the tank and he had to be pulled started to get running again. Also, this picture sometimes runs on the banner at the top of the page.

Another Tracy story was when Nobbie and I came over to help and Tracy with a tire change. Tracy was having a real hard time getting the tire on. Nobbie and I helped for a few minutes and the tire wasn’t going on. Nobbie happen to notice that Tracy was trying to put the 17 inch tire on the 18 inch rim!

I have a KC story too, I was following him in the Ozark NF when he came up a small incline and cranked the throttle on his DRZ. Well the DRZ caught traction and launched into the air. KC came to rest with his front tire lodged between two small trees.

That’s all for now, I’m trying to remember one about Dave H….

I just remembered one that happened at Byrd’s. We had all had a long hard day on the trails and decided to cool off in the stream just in front of Byrds. Off course beer was involved and a lot of yelling because of the cold water.

A local on an ATV drove into the place and just stared at us. Sean asked him what he wanted and he said in a weird voice “nothing”. He stayed a few more minutes then drove off. I guess he is not use to seeing grown men in only bike shorts cooling off in a stream while drinking beer.

Only one rider got to see My stunt down at Cass. We were going down a new trail for me and came to a downed tree across the trail. The tree was about 14" in diameter and everyone in front of me had gone over it with no problems so I figured I would give it a try. I usually try to lighten the load on the front end by cracking the throttle and pulling back on the bars. That has worked well for me in the past, but this time I gassed it and pulled back only to have my left hand slip off the grip from pulling too hard.   . You can imagine what I was thinking going over a tree one handed at 10 mph

Another funny event happened up in Wathena. Dave Ogle and I were grabbing a bite to eat at the burger joint and low and behold Kevin Wares girlfriend comes up and sits down right next to us   It took a lot of effort for us to not burst out laughing when she pulled out her famous picture of her on a Harley. Hey it just dawned on me why Kevin got that Harley last year!!!

I believe it was our first April Fools Ride at the Byrd's house when Troy set up on the other side of a long mudhole to snap some closeups of us slipping and sliding across. I know he didn't intend to, but when it came time for Nobieman to cross, he couldn't resist popping a monster wheelie all the way through. He completely soaked Troy and his digital camera with a tidal wave of that nasty green Arkansas mudwater! I think Troy was the only one not laughing.

Not the most hilarious story, but it is odd how many times we've attempted to do the full White Cloud ride without completing it. In fact, most times, we don't even get half way!

I remember one particularly muddy attempt--David H, you were along on this one. Even XR-NUT Joe joined us. I remember most of us over-working just to stay upright in the mud and having our front wheels completely stop turning forcing each of us to dig the mud from the front forks. All of us, that is, except Joe! He was in his element actually having a blast in the mud. From all appearances, he had zero trouble riding in that stuff! I remember one nasty hill that I was relieved just to make it up--it was not pretty. Joe rode up then back down so he could do it again just for fun.

One of the banner photos that is a closeup of my front forks filled with mud is from that ride.

I think this was the same ride where riding 60MPH pavement back down to Atchison, Larry Macgillivary's rear tire went flat. (I think it was Larry's bike?) We fixed it, then I walked over to my bike, and my rear tire was flat, too!

I especially appreciated when David Hodges did a re-enactment for me this past fall. Hey! I have feelings, you know! 8)
