The more I read about different dual sport adventures the more places I want to go. A lot of those places I know I'll most likely never get to try because of the about of time it includes, like the entire TAT or ride to the Panama Canal or Alaska. My trips have would need to be no longer then 2 weeks. With that in mind these trips are practical for me:
Copper Canyon. I have wanted to take the train here for years. Now I want to do it on a motorcycle.
Texas Hill Country. I have hunted in the area before. My brother lives in San Antonio so I can kill two birds with one stone, visit him and then ride the Hill Country. (I might do this after Christmas.)
South Half of the Great River Road. I have done the northern half now I want to do the southern.
Ride around lake Superior (or all of the Great Lakes). I have been to the WI and MN parts of the lake. It is beautiful. I think it would be incredible to see the rest.
The 4 corners area and see Chaco Canyon http://www.nps.gov/chcu/ Another place I have always wanted to visit.
Ride the Ohio River to the headwaters in Pittsburgh, PA. http://www.nps.gov/natr/ What I have seen of the Ohio is beautiful.
Sunflower Loop. I nice trip right out my door.
Show Me Loop. Same as Sunflower Loop.
Natchez Trace. This my not be a dual sport ride but it is thought a beautiful area. http://www.nps.gov/natr/
If anyone sees a trip that interests them let me know maybe we can plan something for 2008.
Most of you have been riding a lot longer them me. What places have you seen that you would recommend and what places do you want to see?

Re: Furture Rides
If you follow the Ohio, you need to hit West Virginia on the way back. The Gauley and New River valleys are beautiful. The mountain roads are awesome.
For some history:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mary_Draper_Ingles
I have read "Follow the River" and found it fascinating. I will give you all this tidbit ... In the early summer of 1755 Mary Draper Ingles and two of her sons were captured in what is now Virginia. Eventually Mary ended up at Big Bone Lick (now a state park in Kentucky) as a slave with the Shawnee. She escaped. Without being able to swim, she started walking back up the Ohio, to and up the Kahawa, to adn up the New. Troy, you have rafted the New. Imagine walking up the bank. At each tributary to each river she had to walk upstream until she could wade across. Each and every stream. And she escaped in October, the start of cold weather.

Re: Furture Rides
I do a lot of work in WV and have been around the Gauley and New River a lot. Fayette County is one of my customers. I was there last month and took this picture of the New River Bridge after hiking a couple of miles to a point that overlooked the bridge and river.safiri wrote:If you follow the Ohio, you need to hit West Virginia on the way back. Her story is fascinating. I have read a few accounts of the escape.

Re: Furture Rides
Ok that looks familiar. Mike, is that the bridge that we rode under? There was a train track down along the river.

The bridge down under is the original highway bridge. Can't imagine what traffic was like before the high bridge.
