Husky models

Post by troy »

http://www.husqvarnausa.com/

So...in 2007, Husky's website announced loud and clear that the 2007 models were "50 state street-legal". Now, I don't see that. It is obvious the TE610 "dualsport" model is street-legal, but it is not made clear on the TE250, 450, 510.

If they are officially street-legal, somebody should mention to their marketing department that it would behoove them to point that out.

If I were to buy a TE450 and use it to ride to work, I'd want turn signals. Does Husky offer a light kit? If so, why not make that clear on the website?

And what is with the new "TXC" line? They look like the same bike as the TE's but with carbs instead of FI.

Troy,

If you look under the Current Models tab, than the Enduro row, underneath the TE 250, TE 450, and TE 510 model they all say DOT-Legal.

However, you are correct that none of them have turn signals, (or a brake light, from what I can tell in the pictures) so an observant DMV worker (ha ha, when titling the Strom I was asked if it was a four door) wouldn't license it.

I'm sure a Baja Designs kit would work just fine, but tack on $400 to your already expensive dirtbike.

Ian

P.S. Don't forget, you're dealing with BMW marketing now.

Thanks for pointing that out, Ian. Only on the model menu, does it have any reference to DOT-legal. It is strange that when you are looking at a specific model, it does not indicate this.

The Husky TEs have been street legal since 2006 and all models come with all DOT stuff to include blinkers, brake lights etc...

Please note he difference between the TXC and the TE (to the best of my knowledge):

-The TXC is not street legal
-The TXC has the TC frame with a tighter steering geometry (26 versus 28 degree steering head angle on the TE).
-The TXC has a twin chamber cartridge assembly - more advanced & expensive fork internals than the TE.
-The TXC doesn't come with head or tail light, turn signals, etc. and all the associated wiring, etc.
-The TXC comes with the TCs titanium header.
Some say the TXC comes with a TC cylinder head (more aggressive cam?).

That's where I'm confused. The photos on the website do not show blinkers. Do they come with as an add-on kit or something? (Included in the price?)

You silly American, this is an early production European model. You see when you have a Swedish, no Italian, no German manufacturer sometimes these things get messed up. As my 8 year would "for real Dad" they come with blinkers and everything. Look at the tumbnail photo at the top of the page on the Husqvarna website. You will notice a different rear fender, a faint orangeish blinker and mirrors. Yes, it should be included in the price of the bike. One of the largest markets for Husqvarna in the US is Califorina and they have very strick emissions and DOT requirements.

To answer you next question as to why/how this could be, the poor website/advertisement??? Well since 2005 Husqvarna has sold all of their US allotment and why spend money on ads or making your website 100% correct when you sell out? Then all of us Husky guys complain that there are no articles written about Huskys in the mags and that is because no advertisement money = no articles.

Go out and buy a KTM or a Husky, you won't regret it. Please by a Husky and we can have a secert Husky hand shake  Heck I could even let you use my avatar....

I used to naively assume that articles in news publications and other media were somehow organic--a natural result of what is happening and what is news-worthy. However, over the last year, I've learned how the "squeaky wheel gets the grease". Getting your name/service/product written about in a publication is a LOT about who you know and who you pay.

If I used your avatar, I'd be sleeping in the garage instead of the big, warm, cozy bed with my beautiful wife. Of course that means I'd be sleeping next to my shiny, new TE450. I love motorcycles, but I prefer women.

Thanks for the Husky info. I'm not committing to anything, but go ahead and pick out that secret handshake just in case.

I'm actually thinking a TE 610 SM with a spare set of dirt wheels is exactly what the doctor ordered. Now if I could just find that winning scratcher's ticket around here, I'd be set.

I was looking at several 610 SM's at cycletrader the other day. I'm betting that bike would be a blast on some twisty Ozark forest roads. The '06 model has the grey/black color scheme that I love.

Troy,
This would be a much better use of that $1000 you were/are considering throwing at the DR. New technology, stock parts, great suspension, FI, light, lots more power, yaddy yadda. Of course the pressure will be on me to up the ante! :D

Well maybe the three of you (Troy, KC and Safiri) could go to a dealer and say we want three new Te 450's and see what type of deal you could get. The 08's should be hitting the dealer's showroom soon and they will go quickly.

Might want to try a local dealer LetKo, but they only have a few Husqvarnas a year and are mostly KTMs. The next one I would try would be Halls Cycles in Springfield, IL, I get all of my parts from them and they are great to work with. Here is their website: http://www.halls-cycles.com/ The other dealer would be D and J motorsports in Omaha http://www.dandjmotorsports.com/. The even sponsor a Husqvarna message board http://www.huskytalk.com
