Garmin 60CSx, $350, Cabela's

I got a mailed flyer ... $100 mail in rebate on a $450 60CSx.

This is the updated version (x) of the 60CS that I have tried my best to destroy. No success on the destruction.

That's a great deal! I was at Bass Pro recently and they only had a $50 mail-in rebate. I'm still thinking the 276C is the way to go, though.

The 276 is a large unit to keep from moving riding trails (mass .. momentum ... etc.). Screen size is nice though.

The 60 is less mass to keep stationary.

When I save up enough I will be buying a Zumo for $600 or more.

you can buy 276's in the $300 range and 2610's for $200 from edgegps.com

I had a barrowed 2610 for my trip to New Mexico and noticed the bouncy bouncy so I took a leg pad off the weight machine (the ones shaped kinda like an apple core), cut a slit in it and put it on the cross member of the handle bars, mounted the 2610 and before I tightended it I pushed it down into the foam.........NO bouncy bouncy.

Now for the budget minded.

If mom let's me spend $200 or less on a GPS, what would be the next choice?

I've been looking at the e-Trex models and wondered if anyone has been using them and whether they were worth spending the money on.

I definitely want map detail down to the gravel road, topo would be nice, points of interest would also be good. Last but not least a good mounting system so Mr. Thumper doesn't shake the guts out of the GPS.

I think my second choice would be a 60CS. I have seen some on eBay around $225 (buy it now). By watching the auctions you could get it cheaper.

If you buy a Garmin, you will also need to buy the software, either TOPO or City Navigatorl. (About $100 each.)

I'm using an eTrex Legend and I don't think I'd recommend it. It works fine, once you isolate the vibe issues with foam in the battery compartment and dialectic grease on the contacts. BUT, the screen is small and no color so it's hard to see your route compared to the surrounding roads. And it's SLOWWWW. Zooming, panning and general tasking is painstaking. I'd try to find a better model on eBay or Craig's List if you can. The 60 models are much faster and probably within the $200 budget.

I haven't been able to find the 276C as cheap as $300 yet, but I'm still looking. My bike's already wired for it and the Touratech mounts are bullet proof. Cycoactive has a package deal but it's still very expensive.

I have the Etrex Legend C which is color. I use it a lot for other things, like hunting. The screen is small and you can see a few miles around you so it helps if you are kind of familiar with the surrounding area and have a map to look at every once in a while. The color is much better that the non-color.

Well, I'm a bit poorer now..... After fighting the E-drodies, I bought a Garmin referb GPSMAP 60 CS and a RAM mount. The GPS cost $196.50 (includes shipping) and the mount was 34.95....

Now to load the Anderson, Franklin routes...

Good deal. I love my 60cs, but need more memory now going on longer trips. Would like to just have the lower 48 loaded and ready to go. That CSx would be the cats pajamas for me. Too bad I just dropped $700 in riding gear and bags
