Clayton Oklahoma Dualsport

Post by troy »

This is kind of last minute, but I wanted to let you guys know about this annual ride event if you don't already know about it. I've not yet been lucky enough to attend, but maybe 2008?!

Sometimes finding information about the ride is difficult, but I did find this web page indicating the ride is Oct 19 - 21 this year.

Basically, a bunch of riders (all kinds of dirt, dualsport, and adventure bikes) show up in the forest and camp for 2 or 3 nights. The area is close to 1,000,000 acres with thousands of miles of trails including single track, ATV trails, power-line cuts, and logging roads. They claim you can ride 100 miles in a straight line all off-road if you want.

This looks like a pretty good ride, Brother. We need to make an effort to check it out next year.

My problem is each year I think about the Clayton ride, and instead opt to ride the Ozark National Forest. I'm sure Clayton is wonderful, but I can't imagine it being better than what we ride in the Ozarks. Since I can't squeeze in both rides, Clayton loses. :|

Anyone care to do a road trip down to Clayton OK. ? Weekend of Oct 19,20, & 21. If I get no takers for Friday It could be done in two days you just miss alot of good twisties. From Lawrence it's 389 miles one way, the way I have planned. Last year we left on a Friday and rode to Clarksville Ar. for the night. Countless double letter backroads in Missouri and Highways 125, 123,and 7 in Arkansas. Sat. we did twisties to Clayton to eat BBQ with the group. I forgot most of the roads, but Mt. Nebo, Magazine Mt. and the Talimena trail by Mena Ar. come to mind. Sunday we came home. Total trip mileage was about 1100 if I remember right. Any bike that will do the speed limit all day is welcome. I could be talked into camping, but motels sure are nice after a long day in the saddle.
