WABAUNSEE COUNTY in August?

Post by MacWildcat »

Plan on heading out to Wabaunsee county this weekend, anyone want to tag along? I rode the western half between Alma and Eskridge last Sunday. The roads are eroded and the grass is tall! Had a little bad luck on Box Turtle. For those of you that have been through it recently, you know how ugly it would be to bog out on the eroded uphill section - no place to put your feet down. The DR ended up upside down in one of the ravines. (I have to quit riding alone, through Box turtle!). After some serious grunt I got the bike wheels side down and back out. Unfortunately I must have sucked some crude out of the tank and clogged a carb jet. Twenty miles down the road I couldn't break 55 mph without the bike crapping out.
I'll be ready to try it again this weekend, Saturday or Sunday, what ever works for folks. I have a loop covering the roughest section from I-70 to Eskridge - 55 miles. We could meet at I-70 or Wamego and add a few more low maintenance roads. Give me a holler, we'll make some plans. :D

Oh man....I'm gonna be out of town this weekend...but the good news is I will be riding. Mac, that is some good stuff--thanks for putting it together and inviting folks!

Regarding solo riding...it has it's advantages...and the safety disadvantages. Glad you got out OK.

I may be game for Sunday; I'm in Garden City until Friday evening, have plans for Saturday, but Sunday may work. I'll keep an eye on the board and let you know.

Sorry, no pics from last weekend. I was just glad to get out of my mishap without broken bones. A few bumps, bruises, and sore muscles. If this weekend doesn't work out, we can always postpone a couple weeks.
"Savage" - your here in Manhattan? Don't recognize you from your signon. What bike are you riding, and what type of riding do you like? Lots of good stuff in northern Pott. county and Marshall county.
Maybe we can resurrect Luke's Clay county ride....we have to wait for heavy rain though!

Right now I'm riding my little Lifan 200cc. It's a good bike for the money. WISH I had a DRZ400 though if that helps my credentials.
My boss has an XR650, and I've been seeing an old Yamaha 350 (probably) around town, saw a KLX 250 last weekend and I've seen a yellow DRZ a couple times the past few weekends. Is that yours per chance?

Nope, I'm on a 96' DR650, recently released from it's six month sentence at the bike shop. I'm trying to make up for lost time. Got a lot of ideas for rides yet this year.

Mostly white when it's clean! Got two "possibles" and one "maybe" for this weekend. If we postpone Wabaunsee Co. to another weekend, I'll probably use this weekend to scout out northern Pott Co. and Marshall Co. I think there could be more people interested in Wabaunsee Co. if I can give a little more lead time.
I have a route up north from last year, just wanting to check along the way for some additional low maintenance loops. If anyone would still interested, let me know. The northern loop will not be disappointing. It basically starts at Manhattan and goes as far north as Frankfort.
Thinking about putting up some flyers in Manhattan to get more local folks involved. Thought when I had a ride planned out I would advertise at a local motorcycle shop. Lots of DS bikes around, but very few of us on the Rideforum site. Might also be a good opportunity to carpool to rides in the K.C. area. Getting lonely out here!

I think postpone Wabaunsee county until August. See the post for the route I plan to run this weekend - 7/15.

Larry, I'd try to make your Wabaunsee ride, (Alma/Eskridge area?) I'll watch the board for details.
