While looking for inspiration for a summer ride I came upon this map. I figured some here might find it interesting. There are a lot of possible rides show.

Eddie could you post the link to that map. Looks very interesting. I rode the flint hills adventure route this fall. Turned out to be an epic ride in my opinion....but the flint hills is my favorite place to ride.

I found this route over on the Kansas backroads site ( I think) a few years ago.
I /we did it over two weekends, 6 days of riding and ended up riding Neb to Okla. border twice for a total of 1130 miles. The second trip I/we built our own route for. Maybe some time I will put together a ride report if anyone is interested.

I think one or more of those trails would be a good base to build a east/west trans Kansas backroads route on.
I enjoy Kansas history. Right now I am reading a book about early days in the flint hills with two more waiting to be read.

Smoky Hill Trail is a good place to start. A couple years ago Troy, Chris and I went almost to the Colorado line and followed much of it home. A few pics from the trip:

I am working on an idea for a spring ride. Renting a u haul to the southern end of the NMBDR, then riding it Co. To get home from Co. I am thinking of building a route across Southern Colorado or northern NM then making a route across Kansas following one of these old historic routes. Other ideas??? My goal for next spring is to ride the NMBDR just working on a fun practical way to get it accomplished.
That cave looks especially interesting Eddie. If you are willing to share them I may want to get some of those waypoints from you sometime or the names of the places.

Just finished reading the book Flint Hills Cowboys, tales of the tall grass prairie by Jim Hoy. If you have any interest in the flint hills and Kansas history this is a must read. The author grew up near Cassidy and now lives in Emporia most of the information is focused around the central flint hills and dates as far back as the mid 1800s . My local library had the book.
I am now starting to read Hunting and Trading on the Great Plains by James R Mead, library had it also. I am anxious to go riding (if we ever get pleasant riding weather again) and visit more of the places he talked about in the book. Already have two ride routes ready.
