SE of Alma, NW of Eskridge ... almost halfway between on the line segment that connects them.

Just follow the road signs. The MMRs out there in the hills are marked better than in my town.

Download the county map from KDOT (Wabaunsee).

Find Hessdale, 3 miles north of Lake Wabaunsee. (at sections 16,17, 20, 21 of some unknown township)

Find sections 11 and 14 of the same township as Hessdale. The road that connects them is BTR.

A couple of weeks ago I road through there. I wish I knew about it, I would have given it a try.

Last Sunday afternoon I finally road the River Road for Atchison to Leavenworth. It was rutted and there was some mud but I was able pick my way through the tough parts and had a very good time.

I wish I could find someone to go west of Lake Wilson and try this road out with me again. It was a little hairy by myself with no one in sight for miles. Gearing the KLR down with the front sprocket made the rough stuff a lot easier for me. I don't ride fast anyway.

That "road" looks like good dualsport fun. The landscape/scenery looks interesting out there. Were there a lot of roads in that area to make the ride memorable?

Darn it.....I wish I still had my KLR. Seeing Larry's loaded up for the long ride makes me miss mine. I'd enjoy a long ride with you, Larry.

As soon as I get my bike back (yes! it's still in the shop!!) I'll put a ride together for Wabaunsee county. Hopefully have the wheels back next weekend unless I get another poor excuse from the shop.

BTR is drawn on the map as a broken line or segmented sections of road.
This was pretty muddy last week but a friend and I made it through ok.
It's knarly, at best, in places. But if you have ridden any single track in Colorado, this is not to bad of deal.

Does anyone know how much rain if any that area got yesterday. If they got alot I might just head out and do the cassody by dirt route I have. Anyone is welcome to join me. I'll be heading out of lawrence sometime tomorrow morning maybe 9-10 ish depending if I finish mowing the lawn tonight.

hey safari, I remember helping a few newbies on BT a couple of years ago get up the last muddy section, that was you and t-roy, wasnt it? i think it was, that was the first time i ran meet you guys. after riding in the mud last year it seems you still cant do it! maybe its the orange bike?????????

btw- the was the best of BT, it had the creek FLOOOOODED and a huge tree across the road right after it, you had to slow for the creek and then hop over the tree! good times! to give you guys credit, half the guys int the ride went around!

Lots of guys talk about riding mud--standing on the pegs and keeping speed up--but most guys I've seen aren't so confident in the slop. I enjoy the mud, but I wouldn't say I'm good at it. Joe is the only rider I've been with so far who does not slow down at all for the mud. He can RIDE! I remember being in a group of 6 or so riders and all of us were struggling to get up a couple very muddy hills--like it was all we could do just to make it up, then we needed a rest. That is, all but Joe. He zipped up it at full speed, then went back down and up a couple times for fun. When he got back to the top where I was trying to catch my breath, he cut a donut next to me. Sheesh!

I need to spend more time riding behind guys like Joe watching what they do and trying to mimic the techniques.

Snake and I had a great time on saturday riding a portion of safiri's lawrence topeka route. Learned alot about using my new GPS and riding some more challenging roads. We found several great low maintence raods and a great one called Divide road that went north from Eskridge I thought we were on the right way to box turtle but we decided to see what was over this hill instead of head east more. Turned out to be a good decision great rocky road along the hill tops. By the time we made it out it was getting to the evening and we had about an 45-60 min to get back to lawrence, so we called it a day. A great day I can't wait to go back and hit some more of those roads!!! Heres a link to a couple of pics including the bailing wire that Snake picked up. Luckily it was only stuck into the knob and no puncture!!!

Yes, it was T-Rop and myself. My comments about Box Turtle and mud are from that time through it. I have done BTR a few more times, but none so muddy.

Yes, the creek was flooded. I was a newbie back then. I had ridden my F650 around Moab but was still learning the ropes. Still am. Remember that Troy and I followed you through the mud on Troy's Atchison / White Cloud route. We were both quite a bit slower, however.

And my bike is grey!
