trail ride in Lawrence

Post by david h »

This is an open ended offer to those of you who want to come over and ride some trails. this would not be a good ride for a big bike. Some steep hills, but mostly tight trails. We just got them open for the year, so you can help make more trails if you like. please bring a folding saw or snips.

Troy was out helping break in the trails a few days ago. he saw a spot that looked a little hard (firm). So being the nice guy he is, he decided to take his bike up to about 10 mph and throw himself down to soften up the soil for the rest of us. Way to be Troy! always trying to make life easier for the rest of us.

I can ride almost any time so give me a shout and we can set the day & time.

Yeah, you know me--anything I can do to help a fellow rider.

Actually, I'm still hurting quite a bit--I still feel stupid about that accident--it seemed so silly, but I just got out of control and WHAM!

David, we really appreciate your willingness to let people come over and ride! It is definitely a place for your smallest, lightest, trail-worthy motorcycle.

T Dub - got your message but was out of town for Turkey Day festivities.

Sounds like you had a 'smashing' good time. :D

Nice forum - lets try to hook up for a DS or off road ride. Until I sell my KDX I am certified to cut trail wit ya.

i took the DRZ down some trails new my house after setting the sag and adjsting the suspension today. at first I thought I had messed up the suspension or had too much air in the tires because I was sliding around the grass trail and bout lost it a couple times. then I stopped and check the ground. It was still hard and semi frozen, but the top 1/4 inch was thawed and soft. tough combination to get traction on, but real easy to light up the rear once you get pointed straight

David,
Give us a post when you will be out again and when the ground seems good to you to go. In the meantime Beau and I are heading to the slop at Perry this afternoon to slither around some.

Stu and others, Trails are good to go now so anytime would be good. I would ride them several times a week if I had someone to ride with. I hate to ride alone for safety reasons. Give me a call and you can check them out. Often I would just need a hour or two notice, afternoons are best due to frost lately.

What are you talking about?! Nobody ever gets hurt riding over at your place.....except certain DR350 riders who lose control at the top of short hill climbs. Doh!

Actually, yeah, I'm glad I wasn't riding alone---I needed you to pull start my DR350 after you set it back upright while I lay on the ground getting my lungs to refill with air.

I'm healing quite nicely, btw. Snow skiing last week did not bother my ribs at all--that was a good sign. I still have not touched the bike, though. It still needs new handlebars. I had hoped one of you would break into my garage while I was on vacation and install new handlebars as a Christmas gift---but NO---you are all a bunch of thoughtless, selfish poopy-heads.

We thoughtless, tasteless, poopy-headed nincompoops think you need to dump that heavy pig of a bike and get a bike that is not intentionally trying to reduce you to tenderized hamburger. A 400 /450 KTM comes to mind....

Your KTM-loyalty is commendable! Not appreciated---just commendable!

No, it doesn't need new handlebars ... Troy just needs to crash on the opposite side (and hurt those ribs as well!) to get it bent back into alignment ... and then the bars would be those of a chopper.

Joshing about the ribs ... :-)

Troy,

I feel your pain, literally. I banged up a couple ribs in May. They HURT!!! Takes way too long to heal up to boot! Glad you're on the mend tho! But I do tend to agree with Stu on the "orange" tho.
