05/26/07 was so much fun, we want to do it again and again.
Sure, it's short notice, but here goes... Does anybody want to ride Sunday 06/03/07 at 9:00 AM starting from the North Lawrence Burger King parking lot? It's 100 yards southeast of Interstate 70, Exit 204, "East Lawrence Exit". Burger King is on the east side of North Third St. (also known as US Hwy 40 and US Hwy 59). There's plenty of trailer parking on the west side of the street, at the Tanger Outlet Mall.
My buddy Dave O. will be riding his new-to-him Honda XR650R and I will be on my 2004 KTM 625 SXC. David H. will probably be on his Green 400. I should return to Lawrence around 4:00 PM. We could do 100 or 200 miles. I don't care where we go, and I haven't mapped out anything special. Toward Atcheson? Wamego? Probably not toward Eskridge, since we just went there, unless anyone is real gung ho about that. Mostly gravel, avoiding pavement, fast cruising, 50 or 60 MPH, intermediate riders welcome, true beginners may have a hard time keeping up. Stop for gas every 80 miles, stop for lunch, everything will be cool.
Please post if you want to ride. Want to talk about it? Call Chris at 785/766-9678 M or Dave at 785/550-3384 M.
One thing has changed about this plan: We can meet at Burger King, because it's a convenient location, but no way am I eating there. I had the unfortunate experience of watching an Ultimate Omelette Sandwich being assembled. That place is poison.
Ride at 9:00 AM Sunday. Location: North Lawrence Burger King (NOT Sixth St.)
1100 North 3rd Street, Lawrence, KS 66044 785/842-4298

Sunday 06/03/07 Ride from Lawrence?

I can't ride as I will be dragging the boy (4 months) between SAG stops on the Lone Star Century.
Which is the reason I write ...
The Lone Star century is Sunday, bicycle ride from Olathe to Lone Star and back. Thus, you probably want to stay away from the area south of Lawrence as lots of bicyclists. They will be on pavement, but the "traffic" could be a real pain.
Wish I could be there.

I will be in Lawrence this weekend, but I won't be able to ride. My nephew is getting married and all of my wife's (eight) siblings will be in town. I will be at the Hampton on 6th street so be quiet when you go by I plan on being a little hung over
Maybe next time....

It was a good day on the gravel. Dave O. "The Electrician" and I rode from 10 AM to 5 PM, 150 miles. Lawrence to Tonganoxie to Easton to Kickapoo to Atcheson on the River Road. Reverse to return to Lawrence. We rode fast. Conditions: Sunny, blue skies, 80 degrees. Dusty. You would think the recent rain would damp the dust at least a little, but you would be wrong.
The River Road from Kickapoo to Atcheson was in rare form. Muddy and rutted. The ruts were still wet and so just twist throttle and point it and you have your way with them. But they were pretty deep.
We found the Hilltop Cafe for gas and fried chicken at the intersection of KS-192 and KS-17 and US-73. I hadn't been there before, but it's a cool place. Mostly, it solves the problem that the gas station at Easton is now permanently closed (instead of being open about three hours every other day, or whatever was going on there for years).
We talked quite a bit about UFO's on this trip. Ask Dave about them sometime.
