Myself and 2 others, (maybe 4 others) plan to do this ride and will be getting registered next week. I posted a question over on the ADV link. Looking forward to it, should be a great time.

Re: Rally @ the Rock Lodging Options

Post by troy »

Some folks inquired about lodging options. I'll provide some options here--the ones I know about anyway.

Razorback Riders club grounds
First option is camping or RV right on the Razorback Riders club grounds. They provide electric and water hookups and bathroom and showers.

Ozark-St. Francis camping
http://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/osfnf/rec ... rdb5252171
You can camp just about anywhere you want in this forest. Just down the road (S) from the club is the Mill Creek OHV area and quite a few folks camp on the W side of Mill Creek road. I've never camped there, but I've seen a lot of the quadtards there. I can't really recommend it--it might just be a great place to have your stuff stolen. I don't know.

White Rock Mountain
http://www.whiterockmountain.com/Cabins.html
13 miles of rugged forest road
https://goo.gl/maps/TzdYNHmB34o
White Rock Mountain is the 2nd highest point in Arkansas with a great overlook. Cabins are very simple and rustic.

Mulberry Mountain Lodge (cabins)
http://www.mulberrymountainlodge.com/lodging/
Their lodging is not cheap, but it is very nice--even wife-approved. Many of the options sleep 4 or more guys, so if you split up the cost, it's not too bad...and is a really nice place. If you have a large group (more than 10), check out their big lodge--it is awesome! This entire place books up all the time, so you usually need to book well in advance. They are becoming an ever popular location for big music festivals.

There is an almost 100% trail way to get from Mulberry lodging to the Razorback Riders club grounds, but it would take some time for sure. I can provide a GPX track for this if someone thinks they want it. Fastest way would definitely be to run up Hwy 23 to hwy 16, W to Mill Creek Rd, then S to the club.

Mulberry Mountain Lodge (camping)

Mulberry also offers a fantastic campground with a nice, large shower house.

Fort Rock Family Camp / Hwy 23 cabin
http://www.fortrock.org/
Terry Forsythe and his family built this amazing place. It's a Christian family camp, but Terry will rent out lodging when he does not have a camp going on. The secret gem is not the fort, though. Just across the road--right on Hwy 23--is an amazing cabin with beds for 6, room for many more on air mattresses, 3 full bathrooms, laundry facilities, and a huge kitchen. While not in writing anywhere that we can find, know that Terry does not allow alcohol on his property. If that is a show-stopper for your group, well, look elsewhere. Bring cash if you do decide to stay here.

This cabin has been my go-to lodging for many AR adventures. Secret tip: Terry's Fort Rock property is 60 acres that backs to the forest. There is an ATV trail on his property that goes directly into the Mill Creek blue loop....from there it's a short ride on single-track into the club grounds...if you know the way!

Redding Recreation Area campground
http://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/osfnf/re ... 5&actid=62
I've never stayed here, but it is an official forest campground on the scenic Mulberry River.

Other options include Byrd's cabins or options from Turner Bend, but these will put you many miles from the club. In general, Turner Bend properties will be nice. Expect "hillbilly redneck" if you go Byrd's!

That's about all I know about, folks. Others can chime in with lodging options they know about.

Anyone know the status of Cory & Anita Bacon--owners of Backwoods BBQ? As I understand, Anita is battling cancer and they have not been able to open the restaurant this year.

Awesome post, Troy. Thanks for that wealth of lodging information! Your descriptions of those accommodations is spot on in my opinion.

I put it in my first post, but just to reiterate, the RV hookups at our RR facility will be $25 per night, per unit. I fought against that price since we included it with the rally fee last year, but ultimately I lost. We did compromise on lowering the rally attendance fee to $50 from last year's $75, so if you plan on tent camping or staying somewhere other than the RR campground the rally is even more of a smoking bargain than last year.

That's a good question- we will be ending pre-registration 2 weeks before the event. You'll still be able to register at the gate, but it will cost $10 more and we won't be able to guarantee that there will be a t-shirt available if you are wanting one.

The pre-registration also helps tremendously with our ability to plan meals, as well as other parts of putting the rally on, so we really appreciate people taking advantage of the pre-registration option.

There's a chance I might be in the NW AR area this weekend, if I happen to make it Saturday or Sunday would I be able to jump in with any of the groups riding single track or would I need to get ahold of anyone in advance. Lodging won't be needed or anything like that.

You'd be welcome to come out and join us, but I couldn't advise that you join in on the rally without being a registered participant- it might be viewed as unfair by the people that paid their fee to see other riders that did not.

Preregistration is officially closed as of this evening.

Keep in mind that we will still allow participants to pay at the gate, but it will be $60 instead of the original $50.

Thanks!

I think I'll be riding up at chadwick I should of paid attention to this thread and dates earlier but didn't expect my wife to allow me a weekend away to ride around this time :?:  :| , it's a last minute thing anyways. Will people still have access to the mill Creek trailhead if they decide to show up and ride not a part of the rally?

It's not too late- you can register at the gate for $60 and have full participation in the rally. If you're looking to make a weekend of it, the price is a bargain. You'll get dinner Friday and Saturday night, camping, the chance to win prizes in our raffle, the chance to hang out in the clubhouse and around the campground at the fire pits with like-minded people, etc.

The Mill Creek trails are open to the public as always, so if you're just wanting to ride there will be no change to that, but please do not attempt to join our led rides due to the aforementioned "fairness" issues that I mentioned earlier.
