Milford ORV Park - Saturday, 12/16

Post by Slowrider »

Mark and I are hauling out to the Milford ORV park on Saturday, 12/16, at about 10:00 a.m. We usually stop at the A&W just west of Junction City for a sandwich, then head to the ORV park. We'll probably arrive between 11:30 & noon. I'm taking an XR400 and Mark will have his KLX300. Anyone is welcome to join the fun. We usually play follow-the-leader for a few hours (counting my numerous breaks). In the three previous trips we have made, we have been the only riders there. Most of the riding we do is the trails through the trees but a nimble dual sport like a DRZ400 or an XT225 or a trials bike could also have a good time. There are some open trail areas and areas of sand and rock if you want to get down in it. If there others who want to caravan out, we could meet at the Auburn exit of I-70 on the north side ramp leading back onto the west bound lane. Email me at tedwards9@cox.net if you have questions.

Tim,
Tor and I plan to ride with you at Milford, for a couple of hours anyway, on Saturday. We'll just be at the I-70 Carlson exit, we'll follow in as you go by. We plan to leave early for a family functionlater that afternoon in Topeka.

Team double Ds ( just a couple of big boobs) will be there. Might have room for others on the trailer if needed. We will be leaving Lawrence around 8:30 so if you want to go with us, contact me.

I'd love to join you guys--Milford's School creek is some great riding indeed. However, I'm just returning from a Colorado ski vacation, my ribs are still healing from my unfortunate meeting with the ground 3 weeks ago, and my bike still needs repair. Doh! I'm pathetic!

Geez, Troy. Why didn't you take your chest protector? You would be riding Saturday!

My chest protector fell apart -- really a defect from Fox in my opinion. I need to replace it.

I landed directly on my right side with my arm up---where the chest protector is open anyway. I really don't think it would have done a thing for me in this particular incident.

I've also been thinking about those expensive knee protectors--the kind that make it impossible for your knee to bend the wrong ways. I could use those snow skiing as well as motorcycle riding. Those things are like $500, but it's something that if you mess up your knee, $500 is CHEAP.

Besides, Stu, if I go to Milford, I can't ride with you anyway--you are WAY too fast. I tried once and gave up for fear of hurting myself. Remember? 8)

I am not fast at the moment. I am going to try to ride at Perry Sunday for a while, but this is only a little over two weeks out of back surgery and dire warnings about evil dirt bikes so natch, I've got to get out and try them evil devils out. BTW, the Moose and Acerbis shoulder pads have plastic on the sides preventing what happened to you. More expensive, but they most likely would have prevented what happened. The New Asterisx knee pads look really good but they are over $600. Still less than one emergency room visit.

Ride at Perry

Post by Harvey Mushman »

Stu, what time are you going to Perry Sunday? I might come up for a couple laps. I'd really like to go to Milford Saturday. I've been doing a lot of riding lately and the wifey kinda ~expects~ me to do some Christmas shopping Saturday.

What is it about women, they just expect so much of their husbands?

Expectations

Post by Stu »

Two topics here, the latter the most difficult to dispatch since the trade off is an evening out with champagne, canapes, a sideboard loaded to groaning with roast beef, wild boar's head stuffed with apple, pastries, herb butter laced vegetables, desserts, etc. AND a questionably lengthy list of household improvements entertainingly presented as a "honey-do" list. When finished we might, if we otherwise behave with exciting amorous interest, get to take our dirt bikes down to the end of the block and back. An unintended consequence of widespread democracy. Claim spousal abuse standing clear of objects hurled in your direction.

Sunday. I just checked the weather. We have a storm coming in Saturday night and Sunday. It might not be much but having just had back surgery and not wanting to pick my bike up too many times, I will forgo Sunday if it rains. If it does not, and weather checks will determine this, I will go out.

Oops. I forgot. Mid-morning, about 10:30 or so. I cannot go Saturday either given "prior commitments" similar to what you discussed earlier.

Ride this weekend

Post by Harvey Mushman »

I told my wife I couldn't stand to miss the shopping trip, (I got some brownie points when I said that) but I really wanted to ride. She said to go ahead and go to Milford. I told her I really wanted to go shopping with her, (ROFLMAO!!) so I'd ride at Oakland in Topeka for a few hours early, (about 10AM) and be home in time to hit the mall with her, (more brownie points). Everybody's happy. I have brownie points in stock. Life is good.

Wherever you ride this weekend, Have fun and be safe.

As a matter of fact they were XR-Nut, both red and black.... When you gonna come down and ride with us? Pounded laps w/ the 500 guys yesterday for four hours. Think I'm startin' to pick up some speed.

I might even be able to hang with a young buck like you now........

Yesterday was a great day to ride at Milford. There were seven of us, Tim, Mark, David, David, Larry, Torrie and Roger. Even though it was a weekend, the trails both east and west of the parking lot were virtually empty. Occasionally there was another rider but not enough that anyone got in anybody else's way. There were quite a number of ATVs but they seemed to stay down on the mud flats, racing back and forth...over and over...oh, well. We spent most of our time in a follow-the-leader and/or a where-did-everybody-go game. At one point we were taking a break back in the trees and who should appear...none other than Captain America himself...Tom Harmon, riding his DRZ400e. It was good to see him again. I hope we can do it again someday soon.

I'm jealous! I was home working on my kitchen remodel, which is going splendidly. What a great day to ride it would have been. Speaking of Captain America, Safirimike stopped by on his "Captain America" BMW Dakar. When I saw him pull into the driveway, I REALLY wanted to go ride!

Last time I was at Milford, the ATV's kept racing over and over again on that mud flat. They would line up, and just run a straight line as fast as they could, turn around, and do it again. That seemed a little boring to me compared to all the wonderful trails to explore at Milford.

You guys had a big group! Glad you had a great time.

Good to see you guys

Post by Tom »

Hey guys this is Tom Harmon. Finally found the site. I know David told me the address the other day when I ran into you at Milford but I did sleep since then. It was good seeing you fellows again. A buddy of mine from Lincoln and I will be at Milford the day after Christmas (Tuesday) to do a little trail riding. Hopefully it isn't too muddy. I'm sure there will be a few other riders trying out their new toys that Santa brought. If anyone can make it come on out, will probably be there by 10am. Regards,
