There is a cabin I'm thinking of trying to locate. As I remember, the story goes it is south east of Oark. Its on a dead end road and you cross a creek before you get to it. The cabin is open for people to inspect the inside and has a log in book to sign. I do believe troy and friends have been there. Anyone with info I would sure appreciate it.

The cabin is the "Warren Spurgeon" cabin owned now by "Dub". The road is not a dead end, but you are correct about creek crossings. In fact, coming from the West you have 3 significant creek crossings. Coming from the East, you have 1 significant creek crossing. By "significant" I mean they have potential to be impassable when water is high. The road is CO 5550, and you'll see a map posted in that thread.
You probably have a 50/50 chance that Dub will be there ready to talk your ear off and give your group the full tour.

We got the grand tour riding with Devro a couple years ago. As I recall he called it the Spurgeon Warren cabin. We were there probably an hour. Dub had some fascinating stories about how the area was logged years ago. Devro always asked me to keep close mouthed about it.
If I were planning to have it on an organized ride I would feel obligated to honor his wishes and test the waters so to speak. I'll PM you a link to his profile on ADV Uncle Dave.

Keep closed mouthed about it? I respect Devro, and maybe there is something I don't know, but I don't see any risk about folks talking about and visiting the cabin. If you learn otherwise, do let me know.

Second: The cabin is so far off the beaten path it's not like the Walmart masses are going to rush the place. You need either an off-road vehicle, a vehicle with serious ground clearance, or a vehicle you don't care much about to get in there.
I've visited the cabin at least 6 times and probably taken 10 other riders with me.

I think you're probably right Troy, in my case I gave my word. I'd still get current info before I took a hundred riders I didn't really know there, all on the same day. That's all.

The cabin is pretty doable on a GS actually. I've gone there on my DR350, KTM 450, F800GS, and stock Jeep Wrangler. I've led folks on Vstrom 650s there, too. I sent some of the GS Giant riders there in 2012, and as I understand, they loved it. That route was mild compared to the big 1200's I sent through Frog Bayou. Oops.

If I go there it wouldn't be more then 10 riders. Most of them have been out of prison for more than a year 
so you know they are good people.

That sounds just fine. Don't forget to go in the barn and check out the mangers. Hand dug well, outbuildings. I easily passed for a local my last visit to the Ozone burger barn, and had a Luc sighting. 
Dub was telling us about how they strung cables tied way up high in the bigger trees to skid logs. If they skidded with a horse they tied two logs together so they don't roll on a sidehill.
