LABOR DAY WEEKEND 2-DAY!
Re: LABOR DAY WEEKEND 2-DAY!
I CAN'T BELIEVE MORE OF YOU AREN'T IN for this ride!
BIG BIKE folks--all you have to do is download the route file from Link's website and go have a blast. I rode all of it and it's excellent big bike stuff with enough hairy sections to make it interesting.

Small bike folks, we'll just follow our guide, Link.

Oil changed, filter cleaned and new tire on order. Can't wait. Been about 2 months for me. Long range shows it as dry and warm (high in the mid 80's). Gonna be dusty but fun.

Re: LABOR DAY WEEKEND 2-DAY!
Just a few days until GO TIME. It is time to nail down logistics so Kyle & I can plan our timing and whether we tow his trailer or not. Kyle & I have this Fri off, but are not necessarily in a rush to get down there Fri. We'd like to head out in time to get there before dark--it's just over a 5 hour drive.
Jim, what is the earliest you can head out this Fri?
Foster, you in or not? We can make room for you, but if you are in, we need to figure out the logistics of getting you and your bike in the rig. If you are in, what is the earliest you can head out this Fri?
HanesAnizer, looking forward to meeting you & the Berg.
Lone*Star, you IN? Don't worry about being plated on the dirt bike if you want to follow Link. No guarantees, but chances are close to zero that you'll have legality issues.
Bill & Eric?
Note to all staying in cabins, while Link "provides bedding", I'd bring your bag & pillow for comfort.

Re: LABOR DAY WEEKEND 2-DAY!
I can leave whenever. Early Friday, mid day, late afternoon... whatever and I will get off of work. Do I need to bring anything to eat? Or are we eating somewhere in the area each day. No worries either way just wondering what I needed to gather before leaving. My bike isn't legal but I figured I would just chance it or maybe bring my 990 plate just in case.
Let me know. I am easy.

Re: LABOR DAY WEEKEND 2-DAY!
Troy, things are still up in the air for me. Go ahead and plan on letting someone else have my seat. Hopefully I can manage to go but I wouldn't be leaving until later Friday afternoon no matter what. I should know tomorrow or Wednesday for sure. I will plan on driving down there after work and just throwing up a tent.

Re: LABOR DAY WEEKEND 2-DAY!
We have PLENTY of beds available, so no worries there! Just bring $20/night and you have a bed in the cabin. Does it help your logistics if we take your bike down for you?Foster wrote:Troy, things are still up in the air for me. Go ahead and plan on letting someone else have my seat. Re: LABOR DAY WEEKEND 2-DAY!
Kyle lives outside Manhattan, KS, so about 2 hours from my house. He plans to come early Fri morning to my place in Overland Park. With your flexibility and ability to leave earlier on Fri, we can come pick you up at your place. Right now, I'm thinking before noon at your house...if that works for you. We are flexible, too, so if 1PM works better so you can work 1/2 day or whatever, just let me know. If we get to Link's place early enough on Fri, we can put some dirt on the tires!stimmer6253472 wrote:I can leave whenever. Depending on Foster or someone else contacting me soon (time running out) we might not bring the trailer and haul our 3 bikes in the truck. (big full-size truck bed) If Kyle brings his 20' enclosed trailer, I'll bring a spare bike.

Re: LABOR DAY WEEKEND 2-DAY!
Thanks Troy but I should be able to haul the bikes. I have to drive my truck either way.
I think I should be able to swing the trip in the end. Trying to get it nailed down today. Fingers crossed.

Re: LABOR DAY WEEKEND 2-DAY!
Troy,
Here is my setup:
So I can drive or Kyle can pull my smaller trailer if you still want to bring extra bikes. My trailer can hold 3 full size bikes. So with that and a truck bed we can get 5 bikes down there.
Either way. Also I got 2.5 weeks of vacation still to burn this year so of you two are taking the full day off I can as well. Getting in some riding on Friday won't hurt my feelings any.
Like I said I'm open for anything.

Re: LABOR DAY WEEKEND 2-DAY!
Thanks for posting that link, Troy. As if I wasn't regretting not being able to make this trip enough already, now I just watched how much fun we had back in the spring!
You guys have fun down at Links and try not to think of how much better of a time I am having at my wife's cousin's wedding while you are out riding.

Re: LABOR DAY WEEKEND 2-DAY!
Pretty sure I 'm in! Providing I can get the bike maintenance done in time (and I should) I am good to go. I am assuming I can search either here or Google for an address for the cabins. This is my first trip in about 7 months! \m/

Re: LABOR DAY WEEKEND 2-DAY!
Jim (and others?),
Kyle & I finalized our logistics. He will drive his big truck pulling his 20' enclosed trailer. He will arrive at my house in Overland Park between 9 and 9:30 AM Fri morning. We will drive over to Jim's place and pick up Jim, bike, & gear before heading to the Freeman Off-Road Resort.
With Kyle's big trailer, we have room if somebody needs their bike or gear hauled down, but you need to let me know ASAP to coordinate.
Jim, email me your address and phone number. I've been there but forgot exactly where you are. Kyle's arrival time at my house is not exact, but I imagine we'll be at your place between 10 and 11AM. I'll call you Fri morning when we are on our way.

This means the 3 of us at least will get some riding in on Friday in the excruciating heat. Saturday is the big ride day with Link leading us on a 50 mile loop with a lot of singletrack. We'll take off early in the morning to beat the heat. Sunday we'll ride a 1/2 day to return home by Sun evening.
Link has 5 to 7 other guys coming in to dualsport, so if any of you were thinking to dualsport, PLEASE DO! You'll have a great time and a group to ride with. Updated routes/tracks/waypoints here:

If you are arriving after dark be sure you carefully write down all the information about how to find the place! It's paved almost all the way with only 1/2 mile of easy gravel road to his place. When on the gravel road, you'll see a large rock on your left and a driveway. The rock says "Link's". When you pull in, the first cabin building is Link's house and the resort office. Next you'll see 2 small cabins on your right and a larger cabin further down. The shower house is a metal building in front of you. We will all be in the big cabin as Link has the 2 small cabins booked with dualsport riders this weekend.

Re: LABOR DAY WEEKEND 2-DAY!
More tips to help you find Co 862 in the dark. When driving E on Hwy 72, you'll pass through Bunker. You'll go about 9 miles past Bunker. JUST before Co 862, you'll see a small electrical station with a light on your left (N side of road). Also, you will have just passed a huge railroad tie plant on your right (S side of road). Turn N onto Co 862 and drive past a few houses in the fist 1000 feet or so, then down the hill a bit. Link's drive will be on your left.

Re: LABOR DAY WEEKEND 2-DAY!
It's not a well-lit area and cell coverage is near non-existent, although most folks manage to get a weak signal if holding tongue just right at Link's place. Probably a bad idea to stop at a local's house to ask for directions--especially if you gots a pretty mouth.Foster wrote:From all of the details, I can only imagine that finding this in the dark will be an adventure in and of itself.

Ok guys, I forgot to ask and don't ahve time here at work to read back through the posts. How is food going to work out there? Bring our own? Go out to nearby places? Buy it from Link? I've never been and my wife is headed to the store this very moment and offering to grab stuff if I need it. Thanks!
