That seems like a great price for such a machine. Anything special involved for oil changes or maintenance? How much does it weigh roughly? MPG?

I think it's a good deal for somebody. The F800GS bikes for sale that are 2009-2014 or so seem to go around $6K, but are usually much cleaner than mine and lower miles or at least easier miles, come with fresh tires, etc. Mine runs great--I'd go out for another week in the mountains on it right now if I had the time, budget, etc. But I can't deny I've scratched the hell out of it. It really is just cosmetic--nothing you have to fix.

Oil changes on this bike could not be easier. It's an automotive style filter--no funky internal filters or screens. Very simple and easy to access drain plug. You do want to remove the skid plate, which is 4 easy to remove nuts. I'm sure you can find a few YouTube videos if you want to watch the process in all it's glory.

I don't know what it weighs. I don't know the MPG with any accuracy. Unlike lots of folks I know who seem to check their mileage with every fill-up, I never check mileage. What am I going to do with that info? "Hmmm, my MPG was only 47.2 this tank. That's down 0.2 MPG. I better take the bike to the dealer for diagnostics." I suspect the MPG is around 47.

I'm sure one can Google the weight and what others claim the MPG to be.

Not immediately. My lust is for a KTM 890 Adventure R. B's Moto Lab, my local dealer, had one left in stock until somebody else put a deposit on it on Monday. They will not be able to get any more this year. KTM has sold out of them. B's told me the 890 is KTM's #1 selling motorcycle--more than their offroad bikes even.

So I would have to scramble around the country to find one. I'm not in any hurry, and will not be until the next time I have an ADV I really want (and can) do. As much as I love ADV, truth is, in a typical year, I enjoy 1 week-long adventure plus a couple of 2 or 3 day rides. It won't kill me to skip a few rides until I can get a bike I want. This does mean I'll probably have to skip the Adventure Palooza this year.

Truth is, budget is a bit tight right now, so not having a local bike available to buy removes the immediate temptation! In the meantime, I look forward to getting dirty this fall on the 300 2-smoke!

Had 1 serious interest out of Midland, TX, but it has dried up. Guess I'll just keep it..and considering how much I enjoy riding it, not a bad deal.

That is a smart decision. BTW I needed you to keep it so I have one person in KS that will ride with me on occasion. Chris took a position in VA.
