Pull up a couch. It's cool in the Lounge. Just remember to be a good neighbor.

Need rear turn signals for '04 450 EXC

Post by Harvey Mushman »

I finally managed to wipe off the right rear OEM turn signal off the 450. I was looking at Sicass racing signals. I like the flush mounts but would like to have a bit better visibility on the street like the 22-103C's. . Most important is I'd like to get something that I can splice right in and it will flash at the proper speed. Any other suggestions besides Sicass? I know there are other options and thought someone here may have some ideas before I go searching. Thanks in advance.

I use these ... small, flexible ... cheap for when you need to replace: http://www.motorcyclecloseouts.com/extr ... mini-stalk

I think I could work with that. Does it flash at the proper speed without having to monkey with the electrics on the bike?

Wouldnt speed of the flash be determinded by the flash resistor that is in place on the system. Or would Light Bulb size also mater?

I went with the low profile look. I keep breaking the little flexible ones with my boot or the occasional rock when I crashed. I got mine at a local auto part store and they worked fine with my flasher.

I added signals and the circuit for them to my RFS when I got it. Four signal lights and a cheapo auto flasher unit. The signals I posted are standard bulb, not LED. With LED the electrical load goes down so a normal flasher doesn't work right. Hence Hayden's comment about flash resistor.

Daryl's are low profile, but aren't very visible being so close to the tail light. Then again, he is always behind me ... so I don't see them. :P The main issue I had with them is the tail on my RFS isn't tall enough on the sides to hold that monster signal.

I did kick one of the rear signals at some point last summer in CO ... not sure when. For $14 / pr I just keep an extra pair on hand. Two weeks ago I did 5 days of riding in Moab and didn't lose a signal. Then again, I didn't have any bad crashes.

I recently installed the same ones on my bikes that safari posted but in clear. They are stealthy and plenty bright and about an inch shorter than the Baja ones I removed. They look great!
Ahhh, pre-mix!!

I'm going to order a set of the MC closeout units. For the price you can't afford to not try them. Thanks guys.

Mr. Mushman, save your money. I was walking the trail yesterday,(clearing those low hanging limbs) and found your turn signal. A little super glue and your set.

It's all your fault FP. If I wasn't trying to keep up with you professionals I never would have smacked that tree and ripped it off. I should have rode the 300 that day. DC called and said we're riding Saturday. See ya then.

I just saw these for $30... like Daryls, but smaller and LED:

With LED you will need a special flasher unit (or an inline resistor) and run on DC. Thus, I won't be getting a pair.

I wound up getting another OEM signal so all four would match. When I got it home I took it apart and realized the signal part snaps on/off of the stalk. At the time, I thought I had actually broken the signal part off but it just came un-done. I now remember some guys on KTM talk bitching about these signals, (they're on the '07 street legal EXC's as well). Seems if you get too much air off a jump the impact from landing can sometimes cause them to pop off. It's actually a neat design. I think if you knocked them off enough times you could wear out the interface between the stalk and the signal to where it probably wouldn;t stay on at all. As long as I quit hitting trees I should be OK.

Harvey,

Gotta hit those trees, like I do. I'm a violent tree hugger. Makes me green!

I just went with the Sicass LEDs on the rear. They flash at about twice the speed with them on using the stock flasher. People REALLY notice me now with that popping away. Works for me.
