Bougt a 94 VFR last year, sold it in April it was beat up from the feet up. Put 5K miles on it and made $200
Before I sold it I bought an 07 Zuk Bandit 1250abs used out of Louisiana for 6K, shipped it to Iowa in January. GREAT motor, had some issues the dealer did not want to deal with so after 4500 miles I traded it in the beginning of August for $6500 and kept all extras.
Traded it in on a new leftover 06 Triumph Sprint ST, and have 4500 miles on it already including 3K in 7 days, 12 states, etc. Details http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=374699 I LOVE this bike and have not done anything to it and no plans to unless it's a Rusell all day long seat.
To further round out the "gotta always have 2 bikes on hand" syndrome I got this over the 4th of July. 2001 KTM Duke II. It makes me do stupid things, it will get me in trouble and I almost sold it after a month. 100% hooligan bike. I hope to do a track day next year to hone my skills.
