Was it you?

Pull up a couch. It's cool in the Lounge. Just remember to be a good neighbor.

Was it you?

Post by JaySoy »

I saw a couple of dual sport KTMs at a stop light at 75th and State Line last night at about 7:00. I was on a very muddy KLR (did the Atchison-Leavenworth River Road Sunday after the rain).

:D IT was Safari Mike and I returning from a afternoon ride out to some gravel and back. We made it past 311 street and found a few unmantained roads and bridges that were out. It was a good day! We were not as muddy as you, but it is good to know we are all in the same group!

Ha! When I saw you I thought I was in Colorado for a second. You don't see to many bikes like that around. You looked like twins. :)

Sounds like a good time! It was a nice to day to be out riding.

That is a joke from one of the KLR forums. I think the general thinking is that if you mod a KLR enough it eventually becomes a BMW. :) Either that or like the "poor man's beemer" line of thinking.

Ya, you've got to be carfull with the mods, you could endup with a bike better then the BMW, or at least more exspensive  Oh boy, I hope the GS guys don't catch this  See ya on the trail.....

What Brian didn't tell you was that I was running on fumes to get to that gas station. About 175th I had to lay the bike on its side to get fuel from the right tank ear to the left. Almost had to repeat that. I knew Brian had fuel and we could easily find a bottle or can along the road so I wasn't too concerned. And I knew he would stick with me as I had promised him a beer at 75th Street Brewery.

So JaySoy, if you did the River Road up north, and you live in PV, what were you doing way down yonder? :D
And the River Road had to be an absolute mess.

Note to DS riders in KC wanting to head south: State Line seems to be the quickest to turn to gravel. I can only figure that KS and MO fight over who is going to pay to improve it, so it stays gravel. Of course you have to figure out how to get through on Kenneth Rd. BTW, down in the bottomland along Kenneth sits a house with sport bikes. They were out getting vidoe'd doing stunts as we came by. Ugh. If I had had more fuel, Brian and I might have pulled in the drive to sit and watch the carnage (no riding gear what-so-ever).

I met up my Dad, his buddy Eddie, and a new buddy of ours named Jacques, who lives over in Wakarusa and rides a KLR. Dad lives west of Atchison, so it is a logical place for us to meet up. There was also a little flea market going on.I love riding up north along the river.

Man, I wish I could have taken some pics of the River Road. It was a hoot. We kept calling it "mud riding practice day." It was the kind of riding where your facemask would steam up and when you stopped you would say "that was fun but I don't think I'd want to do it again!" Then the road would be dry for about 100 yards and turn to slop again.

I live near 75th and Mission and my girlfriend lives in one of those duplexes on 75th and State Line.

Sitting here in my cubicle, I want to go do it again right now!

I need to venture south more. Up north, it didn't seem to take long to get into the middle of nowhere. South of 435 kind of scares me a little. I was picturing you guys riding the grassy knoll in front of a Bed Bath and Beyond (just kidding of course).

PS: I'm a member of the mug club at 75th Street, I'm alway down for a mug on Sundays and Mondays (2.50 fills).

It wasn't me on the grassy knoll, I swear......
