SunTrust Moto-ST event in Topeka

Post by Slowrider »

On August 15, 16 & 17, a SunTrust Moto-ST event will be held at Heartland Park in Topeka, Kansas. The last event in the SunTrust series was at the Barber Motorsports Track in Birmingham, Alabama. The first event of this series was in Daytona. Check out this website to learn more about Moto-ST.

You can "YouTube" moto-st to view some short videos of Daytona event.

On Friday, 8/15, there is a track day for registered racers. Saturday, 8/16, is the First Annual Heartland Park Battletwin and Superbike Shootout with a purse totaling $25,000. Check out this website

On Saturday, the practice sessions start at 7:30 a.m., qualifying at 10:00 a.m. and races begin at 1:00 p.m. After this series of races, the Moto-ST racers take over, setting up their pits on pit road and also practicing from about 6:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

The Sunday event begins with qualifying races at 8:45 a.m. During the afternoon, the racers will take a break during which time there will be an autograph session. Gary Nixon and Jay Springsteen are scheduled to be at the event. The Moto-ST Heartland 500 race begins at 4:00 p.m. This is a 500K or 3 1/2 hour race.

Ticket prices are supposed to be $15.00 per day. Usually at events of this type, you are allowed to ride your motorcycle on the grounds which makes it easy to get from one area of the track to another. You can also walk through the pit areas and observe first hand the teams, equipment, bikes and riders.

This is a really big deal event in the motorcycle world and unfortunately it will probably receive very little media coverage, especially in Topeka where if there is neither a ball nor a fish involved, our sportscasters don't understand it. I hope you take the opportunity to attend because we don't get many events of this caliber in our area.
