Whoa! Thanks for reminding me! I just set my DVR to record OLN (Channel 55 on Kansas City's Time Warner Cable). OLN has a daily 30 minute Dakar Highlights show.

Last year, that was me who posted the videos. It was Australian coverage if I remember correctly--much better than our US coverage. I'll try to make them available this year again.

Hi guys a friend of Sean Noll's is doing well in this years ralley. His name is Tim Hall #149. He is in 203rd place after stage 3. Just to finish the ralley is very impressive. Here is a link to Tim's website:
http://24.240.192.148/ There is also a lot of information on http://www.Dakar.com.

Since I'm a Husqvarna fan here are some pictures of one of the two Huskies in the ralley. Also, take a look at the other pictures on the course and it makes Arkansas look pretty easy.

Here is the site for PD on OLN. OLN is now called "versus" ... some NYer got paid lots of bling to come up with this one.

http://www.versus.com/nw/article/view/6 ... e&catID=76

Times on the master schedule appear to be Eastern. My best guess with thier site is that coverage will be 200-230 and 530 - 600 (both pm).

This sucks and is a sad day :( I read on Tim's site that this has hit him hard, Elmer helped him out a lot in preping for the race.

The Husky team is out due to injury and a fuel line repair that took too long and cause the other rider to miss the start time.

Well bad news on Tim Hall  This is from his website:

Tim made a high-speed jump from his bike during Stage 6. He has dislocated his hip and is being Medivaced to a hospital in the Canary Islands.

Wishing him a speedy recovery!

To Download Dakar 2007 Video Files ...

Post by safiri »

To download Dakar files ....

Edit: TorrentBox went down on 1/17 due to legal issues. Here is the new way to download:
http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=195458

Short version: (These steps are very easy ... software is easy to install.)

Download and install Azureus: http://azureus.sourceforge.net/download.php
(This is a Torrent client that uses Java ... seems to work better than BitTorrent, too)

Register (free) at http://www.racing-underground.com/

Go to the Rally section of racing-underground and download the appropriate Torrent files:
http://www.racing-underground.com/?cls= ... d=view_cat

Once a file downloads, keep Azureus open. You will be able to play the file from the directory it is saved in, but you will also be a "seeder" ... you will be uploading video to others. Keep Azureus open until at least the ratio button is green (you will have uploaded as much as you downloaded). (Torrents work by everybody uploading as well as downloading ... once you get a part, you upload that part to others that don't have it. This speeds up the process for everybody.)

These downloads are close to 500 MB each. I downloaded all 12 stages, plus the preview and the rest day overnight last night (14 Torrents). I am now seeding all of them. I am using a cable modem.

Dialup: don't bother.
DSL: you will need about twice as long as cable.
T1: you will be done in a few hours.

And in case you want to know the terminology: (from http://www.demonoid.com/faq.php)
Seed( er)? Leech( er)? Peer? What are you talking about? (Terminology)
A seed or seeder is a person who has a full copy of the content in this torrent. They are either the original distributor or someone who has completed the download and is just uploading. A leecher is a person who has begun downloading this torrent and does not have a full copy as of yet. Also referred to as a peer. A hit-and-runner is a leecher who completes the download, but doesn't seed until they reach a ratio of 1.0. Of course, this is frowned upon. These hit-and-run users are often called leechers, as in the parasite, the blood-sucker that lives in the tropics. Although the same word is used as someone who hasn't finished downloading, it is also used as a derogatory term.

What is BitTorrent?
BitTorrent is a peer-to-peer protocol which allows users to connect directly to each other to send and receive parts of a file through a central server called a "tracker". The tracker itself does not contain or transmit any information pertaining to the actual content. It only coordinates and manages connections between peers.

1. Download and Install BitTorrent:
http://www.download.com/BitTorrent/3000 ... ag=lst-0-4

2. Read the FAQs at: http://dessent.net/btfaq/

3. Go to a Torrent listing site, like:
http://www.torrentbox.com/torrents-browse.php?news
and search for the Dakar. Which yielded a user named MonoMan ... http://www.torrentbox.com/account-details.php?id=441820

There are days 1 - 4. :D

As soon as I get them downloaded I will post the links here.

Uncle Tracy,

See my post way above about BitTorrent and Azureous. I have all of the files. I can set you up when you get up to KC to see my kid. Or use that broadband at home and get them yourself. Not sure if anyone is still seeding them.

Which brings up the question: When are you getting up to KC to see your "nephew"?

Probably a little rediculous on a KLR, but there was a KLR team in Dakar this year.

Someone on one of the KLR forums sold these number plates for $10. I couldn't resist:

HOlly COW. I would love one of those. I have always wanted one and it would NOT look rediculous on my 640 adventure. Are they still available???

I bet he does! He had these like a month ago, so he aught to have some left. Here is the info from the post on KLRforum.com:

________________________

I have about 15 of these, if anybody is interested. Vinyl decals, with a satin overlaminate for extra protection. They are all sequentially numbered starting with #175. A couple of the numbers have already been spoken for, (like 187 was asked for a lot)

They were designed to fit the front KLR fairing. Kind of like this, just obviously smaller than this one:

http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j99/r ... umbers.jpg

They are $10 each. If you want a "Pair" let me know, so I can make an additional number for you.
