Montrose, Colorado -- dirt bike heaven

I just returned from the best week I ever spent on a dirt bike. My long-time dirt bike riding buddies, Chad & Colleen, moved from St. Louis to Montrose, CO almost 3 years ago. About a week after he moved out there, it seemed he was posting a new YouTube video every week of some new great trail they were enjoying

My brother & I along with a couple of great friends had the pleasure of staying at their place last week, and Chad led us around some of his favorite trails. We rode 4 days in a row, and each day seemed like a completely different experience. We rode golden Aspen single-track, rocky passes above 12,000 feet, high meadows, sandy high-desert trails, 500' tall silt hills, and an amazing canyon rim. All the bikes ran great, no breakdowns to speak of and no injuries. Even the weather was perfect for the entire trip!

Chad created this highlight video. On our last day as we rode the canyon trails (Rabbit Valley OHV near Fruita, CO), I wore one of Chad's GoPro cameras, so some of the video is from me and features my commentary.

Watching it right now. "No dabs" and then he sits down and paddles the whole way! :-D

This is a great video frame from our ride. This is my brother, Kyle, showing us how to do the big step ups!

I passed through Montrose last year on my FJR1300. We diverted west down and around the Uncompahgre National Forest then up 141 to 50 then to Grand Junction. It was absolutely beautiful. Next year I want to ride the White Rim Trail in Utah's Canyonlands National Park. I don't really want to ride it solo... Looking for anyone interested. Time frame will be around September 17 - 25.
