I also have the Garmin Montana and Delorme (now Garmin) Inreach. As Troy said Basecamp is kind of a pain in the ass, but once you get used to it, it's not so bad. Real easy to wifi tracks or routes from one Montana or other Garmin product to another.
Unfortunately, where I live my internet speed is slightly above dial-up so I only use Google Maps and satellite imagery only when I feel the need to verify that there actually is a road or trail. I have found numerous errors using basecamp, and the Delorme Atlas & Gazetteer maps. In Missouri there are also maps of every county online at http://modot.org/newsandinfo/CountyMaps.htm. I download and print these maps as a back-up, to carry with me in case I have a GPS failure, and or have to do a quick reroute because someone has put a gate across a road and declared it to be private property.
The possibility of a class sounds awesome, I wish someone had done this two years ago when I first started into this, hopefully I can attend and learn some new things as well.
The Heart of the West Adventure Tour Ride sounds like a blast, I remember reading it a few years back. I need to google it and reread it. Great pics also even though it takes a long time for my computer to download it, it is a worthy read.

If anyone is looking for a good set of paper maps for KS pick up the Kansas Turkey Hunting atlas put out by KS Wildlife and Parks. They are now in color and have every county. Best of all, they are free.

Sounds like there is definite interest in a GPS dinner. To get it going, I thought that I would throw out a few dates and see if there is anytime that seems to work for most interested:
May 9, 10, 30, June 1, 5, 6?

Re: GPS - Advice for the New guy?
any more interest? just a couple people?
I was Barrigas and scoped out the party room, they have a big screen/projector as well as a regular TV that we could hook up to. The venue is free, just pay for food/drinks.
May 30th was the only date that was mentioned, if we get more interest I can see if we can get it reserved.
