New Old Bike

Post by Jengel451 »

project I just picked up. Has a holed piston at the moment, will do a little bit of work to get it even more hooliganish.

it ran an 11 sec 1/4 mile this summer. Not bad for a 40+ year old aircooled clapper.

Nice. My first bike was a 73 125 AT3 so I recognize that motor and frame ... not much else recognizable, though. :)

I found a local that can rebuild multi Cyl 2 stroke cranks. Has a hot rodded RZ500 in his garage. Even better, he's only 3 miles from my house.

If you need 2 stroke cylinders bored or single cyl cranks rebuilt, Larry at Donnell's is old school, he can do it and chamfers the ports etc.

I have the engine completely apart, sending off the cases to be vapor blasted. Cylinders are being cleaned up and a new piston on the way.

The chassis is an RD400 with an RD350 swingarm, so it's got to be REALLY really unstable at speed. Should be fun. While I have it apart, i'm toying with the idea of putting the RD400 trans into the 350 engine. Not an easy drop in and i'm not sure i'd notice any change.

Nice, did you do the paint yourself? What did you end up doing with the transmission? That front disc looks huge and the seat looks painful.

Thanks.

Transmission, kept it 350, to go 400 there is a BUNCH of stuff to do and little benefit. I'm currently working on a dry clutch conversion using TZ parts.

Brake is off an R6, way more power than this bike needs, have to be carefull when getting on the binders.

Seat, is more of a torture device, I don't like the TZ750 look on an RD, it just doesn't look right. I need something with more room. I'm also looking at clip ons for the bars.

Paint was rattle canned.
