The stock bolts that came in my new fat bar adapters--the bolts that bolt the adapters to the triple clamp--are 8mm, 1.25 thread pitch, 20mm long button-heads. I want 40mm long button heads with full threads so that I can use most of the available threads in the triple clamp---now that the top 60% of threads are severely compromised.

This is a difficult bolt to find, but KC suggested I try a Fastenal store. They did not have any at the local stores, but the manager called a supplier, and they agreed to "sample" 4 bolts to me! So now I'm waiting on them to arrive.

My new throttle cables should arrive today or tomorrow. Unfortunately, it does not look like I'll have the bolts in time to get the bike ready to ride this weekend. I was hoping to get out for a little ride--maybe http://www.Head2Holt.com. :(

Another HUGE thank you to Dean. Thanks also to Mike for his help. And of course thanks to you guys for your suggestions and to Ian for even offering tools and his skills if needed. Ian--sorry to hear about your stolen 636! Right out of your garage, eh?!

Hey Bro, if you want to ride this weekend just go back to the hardware store and spend a buck on some cheapo black socket screws and put her together! will be plenty strong enough for riding roads. Then, when your bolts come in from Fastenal, just swap em out one for one. Would probably give each one a dose of blue loctite.

Troy is back!!! I got the bike back together and did a 6 mile test ride. Woohoo!

Ian gave me the special bolts I needed--THANKS, Ian! I've said it before, but I'll say it again. We've got a great community here.

Glad to know it worked out for ya Troy, I could see the jonesin' in your eyes.

I guess the bolts are one of those "special" (but far from special bolts) that we keep in bulk at the shop. If anyone ever needs a onesie or twosie "special" bolt, just let me know, I'd be happy to liberate it from our overstock.
