No scratch tire irons?
No scratch tire irons?
I'm looking for a new pair of tire irons so when it's time to change tires on my purty new rims I don't put a big gouge in them. Scratching up a pr of silver rims doesn't bother me too much, but it doesn't look so good on black ones.
Anyone know of a good set? Thanks!

It's a dirt bike! If you are worrying about scratching your rims then don't ride it in any rocky areas. I like the Sharpie option too.

Re: No scratch tire irons?
If I put a scratch in the rim while riding then so be it. If I gouge it from my own stupidity while changing a tire I get upset.
I ordered stubby pro tire tools last night.
I guess I'll see how they work when it comes time for a change.

I don't know what brand they are ..but the ones I got from No Mar are really good and you have to try to put a scratch in your rim with them.

Re: No scratch tire irons?
I have the Stubby brand ones myself, but they are a bit bulky and cumbersome even with the notched cutout at the business end. They work, but if the bead is super tight or stubborn, they can be a bit difficult to get in between the rim and the tire bead for that last bite going on.
I used the No-Mar aluminum spoons this past week to change a few tires in Moab and they were probably the best spoons I've ever used. I need to order a set soon. You could scratch a rim with them if you got really ham-fisted, but short of that they seemed like they would get the job done without leaving marks all over your rims.

That explains why you did not reply in the Rally @ The Rock thread! Hope you had a great time! I'll get back out to Moab one of these years.kendall_smith wrote:...this past week to change a few tires in Moab...

I've been pretty hands-off with the Rally @ the Rock planning this year and being in Moab was a pretty big distraction on top of that!

Re: No scratch tire irons?
My mistake- they were actually Pit Posse spoons that were bought through the NoMar site:

I have a set of these that you can have. I tried them once said F*** it and went the Sharpie route for the rims on my 690. That motion pro set up that Eddie has a pic of looks like a good choice also.

I saw those and they looked like I would throw them across the garage after trying them. I think I'd rather try wrapping electric tape around my metal irons a few times.
My new ones should come in today. Time will tell if they work...

Re: No scratch tire irons?
Let us know which ones you bought and how they work out for you. I have four tires to change for my 350 if the doc tells me this afternoon that I can start putting weight on my leg. Don't need protection for those they are silver rims.
The 690 however has black rims and those motion pro bead breaker irons mar them up pretty good. The sharpie works very well
