Can't stop smoking

Post by Savage »

I've been trying to stop smoking for years. I can usually stop for quite awhile but then I fall off the wagon again. Luckily my wife is understanding. :D

Thanks! Here it is after I removed the junky shock socks, and gave it a quick rinse. She needs some work here and there but I'll enjoy tinkering with it.

It could use a skid plate. Anyone got one laying around for an old bike?

I got a couple hours in on it yesterday. It's running great! I'm just going to make a skid plate for it. Ordered a kickstand. It could use a new front wheel. Anyone have one that would bolt up? Thanks

What year is your bike? I have a front wheel in my storage unit...moving soon so would love to get rid of it. Also have gas tank, head light shroud and radiator shrouds. All for 2001/2002 KTM.

Let me know if you could use them.

Where did you get the new graphics for the bike?

Made more custom graphics today. Cut out and fabbed up a skid plate. Installed my favorite grips. Cleaned out and rejetted the carb and installed pretty new fuel lines.
She's coming around!

OK this bike is bad@$$! Took her for a ride tonight to test out the changes (and well to just ride) and it is so smooth. The power is predictable and just perfect for my taste with the green spring. The suspension is so soft and plush. Probably undersprung for my weight, but it is so fun to just doink around on.
I'm calling it my KTM X-Trainer!

Here's a little video from our maiden voyage at Milford (before all the above changes)

It is looking great! Sorry I could not make it tonight, I was hoping to but got side tracked today and could not feasibly have made it...

Nice looking 250 Savage, I think you will like it. Some say the 250 is the perfect balance between the 200 and 300. Looks like it has the older conventional Marzochhi, (sp?) forks on it which I've read are very good. A pipe guard might be a good idea if you ride in rocks much. What are your initial impressions comparing it to your 4T riding offroad?

Overall the bike doesn't look near as sleek or sexy as the new ones but this old chassis is quite impressive. I'm surprised how sharp it turns. The forks are off of a 1999. They are WP Extreme's with a custom coating. Others have said they are one of the best forks KTM has ever made. It came with an aluminum pipe guard hacked on but it was ugly and rattled. I have one that I removed from an old 200 I had with a gnarly pipe so it might fit. I just don't usually ride hard enough to warrant one and I hear the gnarly pipes are tougher.
If I take the bike for a rip its pretty snappy. But when riding the trails at my normal snails pace it fits me well. I can easily ride slow and never really open the power valve and it goes up the hills just fine. Or let the power valve open nice and predictable and easily loft the front wheel over things.
The power is very similar to the 280 big bore. Mild if you want it to be, or open it up and they go.
The 2 stroke is lighter, turns quicker, less engine heat, vibrates more, and smells delicious.
The 4 stroke is obviously the opposite of the above IMHO, but I what I really like about it is how the engine just keeps on pulling in any gear. I don't know what the redline is, but it doesn't let up. Both are great bikes. One can't go wrong with either one.
