New addition to Bird Farm trails

As of last night we completed this:

bridge across one of the creeks on our trails. It was a lot of fun to build with 2 teenagers quite excited about the project. We managed to gather up most of the materials from things on hand or donated , so labor was the greatest investment. I set up the game camera to take our pic every 5 min while building. Attached is a link to some of the pics of the project.

Awesome work! I'm jealous, except for the poison ivy. :D If you have a lot of pics off the game camera you could load them to your computer and/or youtube to make a cool time-lapse video.

Come on Savage................ I want to see a "Stoppie" right in the middle of the bridge. You know you can do it.

VERY COOL bridge!

It would be cool to see all the trail cam photos in a fast slide-show. Savage, do you know an easy tool to accomplish that?

Doing a wheelie across it sounds more fun than a stoppie on it. :D

Yes, Windows Movie Maker. Simply load them, adjust the time each pic is shown and hit play.

getting trails back open

With all the rain we had this spring and summer the vegetation in the woods and the woods themselves have really grown. A couple weeks ago I got started mowing and reopening the "bird farm trails". I now have about 1/3 of the trails mowed and in good condition ,except for the "face slapping" branches, vines and various brush.
In the last month we have entertained a few guest.
The other day the neighbor boy took a friend of his riding , it was getting close to dark and I couldn't hear them anymore ,so I went looking for them. I finally found them at the far end in the weeds and brush asking me "where are the trails". They were lost. We had better get headed back before it gets dark because these trails are so overgrown at times I am having trouble following them in the light. To their credit they had a plan on how to get back and it would have worked.
The work load with the pheasants is starting to get a little lighter so I am hoping in the next week or two to finish mowing the trails. Clearing the encroaching branches and weed whacking the parts I can't get to with the mower will be what remains.
If any one wants to come ride with pruning shears in your pocket clearing as you go you are welcome to.
We have made some improvements/changes , the bridge being the main one. The area around the bridge is a lot nicer now with more , better groomed trails and options. The woods are very different now than last fall, much more canopy, many times it is almost like riding in a tunnel. Oh yes , there is even a "jump off the side of the bridge with your bike" for those daring enough.

In the end it appeared she chose not to use the convenient bridge.

Motomann took the little guys to Birdman's trails this past Saturday. He made this video to share with you all! You can see them riding over the cool new bridge.

Thanks for the fun video and sound effects.
Trails are not up to "specs" yet but are very rideable. We have been entertaining a few guest recently and have more scheduled in the next few weeks.
If you want to ride give me a call. The woods are shady and cool.
A great opportunity to get yourself and or the kids out and enjoy the outdoors on a working farm.

I would like to mark the trails with "green" arrows for the easy the path and "blue" arrows for more difficult paths. These would need to be weather proof signs. Does anyone know of or have ideas where I could get signs like this.

The trails look to be in great shape for this time of year.

Great video!! I miss my boys being that little...man does time fly. Need to get the girls out on bikes though I think 7 months is still just a tick too young.

Awesome Video! Thanks motomann!!!

bird man for marker, last year I used some folder used to separate paper, they were made out of plastic and I cut four arrows per page that then you could staple to trees...

A couple of thoughts.

2: Spray paint on ground (trees are much more permanent) That way if the terrain changes it is easy to change color

Using these at the ranch. You are supposed to use aluminium nails so the tree does not feel bad. A little expensive but some of the flagging tape I used was badly faded after a few days!

Also got some of these on eBay. Not reflective but many colors.

This spring all the rains and floods did a lot of damage and changing to the trails. Here is where the bridge used to set.

Image

Its present resting place is now 30 ft down stream and condition ,not so good.

I am just now getting around to repairing and mowing the trails due to wet spring and work situation. We will pull the old bridge out of the creek but not sure if we will rebuild it. I have a pipe bridge , with plans to put it across the creek a little ways up stream from where the wood bridge was.
There is lot of chain sawing and mowing to do. If things go well we hope to have a RideForum trail ride on the Bird farm trails again this fall.

Oh man Larry! Just tilt the longer section of the bridge up a little and it can be a wall ride! This wet spring had some of the trails I ride under water till middle of July. I came home going north through some real heavy rains and wondered how your place was holding up. If you are able to hold another ride day I will be there. Wanted to make the get together in Manhattan earlier this summer but was unavailable for it.
