Cracked headlight lens = $478.21?!

@#$%! BMW

During a gravel road ride last May, a rock hit the headlight on my F800GS and cracked the plastic lens. It looks like a replaceable part. Turns out BMW only offers it as part of the entire headlight housing and they want $478.21 for it.

Sheesh! No wonder people buy those protective headlight screens. I think 4 inches of clear plastic tape is probably < $1. Of course my fellow BMW Adventure riders will laugh at my redneck headlight when I glide into the Starbucks parking lot for my decaf carmel macchiato with whip.

I took a hammer and beat up my aluminum luggage to make it look like I just completed the TAT. Maybe that combined with my taped-up headlight will buy me some "gnarly adventurer" points with my gang.

I think it's plastic...but it might be glass. It was not obvious upon quick observation. Thanks, Eddie.

Overlander's got broken following me on a Holt ride. I've never been prouder of messing something up. I think I found him an aftermarket for much less than what ktm wanted.
I have an extra approx 4x6 black wire mesh guard you'd be welcome to.

maybe touratech makes a cover for it :D so add 40 to your 478 so it doesn't turn into 956

i know superglue can make very crappy permanent smudge marks on plastic. just fyi.

Hit it with a propane torch for a few seconds. If it melts...it was plastic.

Surely, the lens - or the entire light for that matter can be sourced from some other part.

That being said, I am ordering some thick 3M stuff tonight for my BMW...so...thanks Troy.
