I just found out that a local rider developed this motorcycle communications device and recently launched it. It looks to be an amazing product.

Not for sure who I talked to at the restaurant but they had neck mics and they said they bought them in kansas city and a local person help develop them I kind of blew off the conversation a few months back. They said they worked great, husband and wife team on road cruisers. Hmm interesting not for sure if affordable is the choice of words for $400 smackers
But I want a set

Troy- Thanks for the post. Here's a 25% off discount code for RideForum members: RIDEFORUM25
Rusty Jug- I'm the local guy behind Neckmike USA (Chuck). Use the RIDEFORUM25 code on the web site if you'd like to buy at a discount. The product works great and has a lot of unique benefits.
Here are a few pics:
The patented Neckmike 5th generation headset. The throat microphone offers improved performance over traditional open-air boom mics because it picks up your speech near your voice box, and is far less affected by surrounding sounds such as wind noise, engines, traffic, etc. It comes with multiple sets of earplug tips so you can get a good fit for maximum hearing protection and ease of listening.
The Neckmike M3 and M4 Bluetooth units (the M4 includes a handlebar remote control)
The M4 Bluetooth unit mounted to a helmet with the included clip. If you use Neckmike without a helmet, the Bluetooth unit can be placed in a pocket (with reduced intercom range) and controlled by the handlebar remote.

Interesting. In the market but I can't find many reviews online. How long have they been out?

I don't doubt the voice pickup aspect of these units.
Was just hoping there would be reviews comparing the Neckmike units to other brands like Scala and Sena feature for feature.

Hi Jim- The product just launched in the U.S. in late 2013, so there aren't many reviews yet, if any. It has been available in Scandinavia for nearly 10 years, with thousands of customers there.
Neckmike primarily competes with a unique headset whose microphone is less affected by wind noise and with stereo earbuds that provide great sound and hearing protection... killing two birds with one stone. It is also versatile for different types of powersports (street, dual sport, off road) and can be used with or without a helmet (cruisers, snowmobiles, etc.). This page provides a comparison between Neckmike and boom mic setups:

On the Bluetooth side, we take a KISS approach (keep it simple), with two units which emphasize reliability and ease-of-operation over complex operation. The M3 can connect with two other Bluetooth units (one at a time), and the M4 can connect with three others. The M4 also includes a grip-mounted remote that can be used to control all functions- adjust volume, open/close Bluetooth intercom, answer/end phone call, pause/play music. Our units do not require any multiple/concurrent button press operations that are hard to remember and difficult while wearing gloves.
BTW, be wary of exaggerated range claims for Class 1 Bluetooth intercoms. By law, every Class 1 Bluetooth transceiver is limited to 100mW of power. An external antenna (like ours) will provide the greatest range (1 km in good conditions reliably), but I view claims of one mile or more with a strong dose of skepticism.
Hope this helps!

There are better options - they just take time to get to market. My wife does this for a living and keeps telling me to get of my duff and help her develop a total in ear solution.
One can speak THROUGH the ear. The funny part is everyone else will hear you as YOU think you sound...not how you actually sound. Kind of interesting!
With a little work, one could develop a split earbud design perfect for helmet use - one is the speaker, one is the mic. The application could be universal - phones, two way - let the transmission technology stand on its own. One just needs innovation getting sound to and from the human body.
All that being said, do you REALLY want to hear what your riding buddies think about your riding style...for 9 straight hours...
Im still waiting on the Firefox style...where I just thinks' it!
