Do you & Allisa have any plans to setup camp in AR this year for longer than a couple weeks?

Some people love the desert. My pop is one of them--he finds endless beauty in the relative barrenness. My biggest desert experience is probably riding out in Moab, and while I loved the riding, that landscape would get old to me. I love TREES and flowing water and riding in the forest!
Yup- we plan on being in AR for the whole month of April. We're going to do the WUDI ride on the 4-5 and the TARKC ride the first weekend of May. In between those two rides we'll be in Eureka Springs for most if not all of the time.

As for the desert- like most things, it is good in moderation. I think we have realized that a month in one spot is going to be our maximum, but this crazy winter is causing a lack of options of places to go. I'm ready to get back to dirt (instead of sand) and trees (instead of cacti) and water (instead of dry creek and river beds that only have water in them during flash floods)! :D

It also seems the dirt riding down here is lacking a bit. I haven't even ridden the 350 since there hasn't been anything that I was uncomfortable riding on the 990. There are a lot of places that look like they would be cool to ride, but there is a lot of private land around here with crazy owners that don't mind pointing and shooting guns at you to keep you out!

Well unfortunately the cold is back and I am not ready for it. I guess we'll see how much snow we get. Maybe I can talk Daria into trying out her riding skills in the snow tomorrow. That should make for some good laughs and help pass the time. :P

I've been passing the time cutting wood.
It's the only way to heat my garage so I can work on the bikes without wearing a parka!

My current project is new handle bars, raisers, hand guards, big footpegs and folding shifter for the TW200. Thinking about putting ice studs in it's tires for when my pond is frozen.

Has anyone ridden with studs on ice? I hear it's a great time and from some photos I've seen looks like pretty good traction.

Hey, Kurt! Is that a wood pile or an extreme endurocross track?

Ha, it depends on the time of year.
In the winter it's a wood pile, in the summer it's part of the track!
I was actually thinking that I'll keep a few various size logs to practice log crossings on my DRZ.

This is an interesting article about the coldest inhabited town on earth. Some nice pics.
Only a few weeks now til more pleasant riding temps and an occasional day that is pleasant now.

For those who are looking forward to spring.....notice the number of dead skunks on the road. They have become quite common in the last few weeks. For those who care or not this phenomenon is what I call "skunk rut". The significance of it is spring and warmer weather is soon to come.

Just bits of little known lore.
To share I have more

Like if it clears off in the night it will very likely rain in the next 3 days

It will rain or snow 90-100 days after fog

Do you have any to share.

I remember you mentioned that last year and I recall it was true. I haven't noticed it around here yet...
I remember an old guy told me when I was young that you could always count on a good rain at the end of a drought. Hilarious!

Yeh, similar, an old guy in the community used to say if you predict a drought long enough you will eventually be right.
I remember my dad telling me the way to catch a sparrow was to put salt on it tail.

The U.S Army Survival Manual describes how to catch a skunk by running up behind it and picking it up by the tail because it can't spray when it's hind legs are off the ground. That is the only detailed example on catching small game other than making snares and deadfalls for squirrels and such. Really...a skunk? I know the author was laughing his sick, twisted behind off. Good Luck privates!

KC, do you remember dad teaching us how to catch a polar bear? He explained that you cut a hole in the ice and then place frozen peas around the perimeter of the hole. When the polar bear comes up to take a pea, you kick him in the ice hole.

Yes that was a video of an afternoon of good fun. Most importantly was Dad spending quality time with his kids.

Now another bit weather lore.
This is one of personal observation. I have almost never seen any good weather come from an east wind. If in drought an east wind brings more drought and if it is a wet pattern an east wind only brings more rain.
Wind out of the east the fish bit the least
Wind out of the west the fish bit the best.
There are ones for the north and south but I don't know them
