Talimena National Scenic Byway

Pull up a couch. It's cool in the Lounge. Just remember to be a good neighbor.

Talimena National Scenic Byway

Post by troy »

Just a quick post to say that the Talimena National Scenic Byway is a GREAT road! Jasoomian & I took our adventure bikes on a 2 day Ouchita forest ride this past weekend with an overnight in Mena. We took the Talimena Scenic Bypass along the way. Amazing road with amazing views!

Yes it was.

This was my second attempt at riding down in the Ouachita National Forest and it did not disappoint. I only fell over twice! I call that a win in my book. While there were a few bikes out there cruising the Scenic Highway, there was not a lot of traffic for such a beautiful day of riding. And Troy and I only saw a couple of trucks rummaging around the back roads.

You really can't ask any more of mother nature, especially in mid-Aug in the mid west, than to keep the temperature in the mid 80's for the better part of two days.

Rode some fantastic stretches of both pavement AND forest/county roads. I even had the chance to say hello to my little friend along Polk 100 (Skyline Drive) that managed to mark a pretty good dent in my rim during my last trip in that area.

I have a ton of pictures, a few videos, once I get them sorted I'll post them up for sharing.

It's a bit of a haul for you KC folks to get down there in back in a weekend, but, I think that Troy can attest it was well worth the trip - even if my Day 002 route was a bit, shall we say, over zealous?
