Meeting horses on the trail

Just a reminder for us all...and perhaps some of us don't know this.

Some horses don't know what a helmeted rider on a noisy motorcycle is. Therefore they get scared, which can be a dangerous situation for the rider. If you come upon a horseback rider, shut off your engine, talk, and remove your helmet as you wait for them to pass well beyond your location. Talking lets the horse know you are a human rather than an equestrian-raping alien. (Got to watch out for those!)

Troy you forgot to mention what to do if you run into a cattle drive and a upset rancher I still say it was a public road and I had just as much right to the road as his cattle did. But he had a gun, so yes I will get the "F" off of your road.

It's a darn good thing we shut off our bikes and took off our helmets, Mike, those cowboys would have gunned us down for sure when they mistook us for E.R.A.'s

That is not just on a trail. You need to be cautious on the road as well. I stop or slow down to a crawl when I see a horse.

Even stopped I have seen the Amish buggy horses and horses being ridden get skid-dish. The driver/riders are always appreciative of me stopping.
