Very Boring Rally-Duluth, MN

Post by ajayhawkfan »

Aerostich's Very Boring Rally III is August 23-25 in Duluth, MN. This event is held every 5 years. A couple of weeks ago I was in MN at the Hiawatha BMW Rally. Everyone was talking about VBR III and those that attended VBR II said it was the best rally they ever attended.

Duluth is a great town to visit. There is so much to see and do and the riding around the area is fantastic.

I am attending the rally and have paid. If you sigh up before the end of the month it is $10 cheaper.

Also planning on attending:
ozarksrider
dirtfarmer
2whelman
Rycomm
bonanzasteve
Milt, the good kind of blood sucker
Jim H., (Matt's father) plus some friends
Terry N., (president of KC BMW Club)
clfarren5944

Later they are going to name the "big name" talent that will entertain. Last rally it was Jr. Brown.

Anyone else have an interest in going?

I've been planning on going. I didn't know I was supposed to register. I guess I didn't do a very good job of researching it.
It just sounded like a good destination at the right time of year.

Steve, sounds like there maybe a crowd from the KC area.

Here are some pictures from the last rally ( I snatched from ADV)

I wonder if they will let me play on the course on my GSA.

I doubt they would like me play. They don't want to be shown up by a guy on a 600 pound bike.

Any chance of reserving a camp spot in the middle of the open field but still close enough to enjoy the aroma of the Johnnys? Can't believe I'm thinking about camping!

670 interstate miles from my house to Duluth, and I sure as heck don't want to pound 1,300 roundtrip interstate miles on my F800GS, so the "adventure route" is more miles than that. I don't mind the miles, but miles = time. Those miles mean about 4 days just to commute up there and back plus another 2+ days to attend the rally. I don't have enough vacation time left to make this trip work. Even if I did, I'd feel guilty taking another week away from my family since I'm already taking 8 days for my Colorado adventure next week.

You guys are going to have a great time. Well, as much fun as can be had sans Troy, which aint much. 8)

(I heard the rally was boring anyway!)

For those interested in going to the VBR.

On Thursday, August 22, Chris Smith and I plan on being in Stillwater, MN. I made reservation for the two of us at the Water Street Inn. Normally it is quite pricy ($189 and up). http://waterstreetinn.us/ I got 2 rooms for $77 each, Gov. Rate. I mentioned others might call. They said they would give you the same Government rate.

The ADVrider.com group may have a meet and greet in Stillwater that night for us. Even if they don't it is a very neat town.
